Possibly. The streaming era has certainly rendered the budget theater run that movies would enjoy as nonexistent.

The holds for them and Ghostbusters FE should be good for at least the next two weeks. Next Weekend ain't much to suck up the BO and even really only the The Fall Guy on May 3rd. Right now that's only looking at 35-40 if it can break out somewhat in these next few weeks.

Original movies being successful or bombing has to do with if they’re being marketed well or if they look appealing it’s been that way well before covid ministry and abagail just weren’t marketed very well and never really gained any attraction online but we can’t say that no original movies ever make money because we have had instances that shows that is not true at all

I also wonder if vampire movies just don’t appeal to people when’s the last vampire movie that did well?

Feel like Crunchyroll/Sony messed up with Spy x Family. If they had released it in Feb when the second season ended and theaters were still barren probably would have gotten a couple million more.

I think both the Shyamalan joints and Speak No Evil look like very compelling horror fare with tons of trailer views and online buzz - if all THOSE flop, then it's big trouble for any non IP horror film.

A big component missing with these films is a lack of virality on TikTok. M3GAN went viral, Smile went viral, Talk to Me went viral. Maxxine is in a pretty good spot cause X and Pearl, while not high grossers during their theatrical run, have blown up on TikTok and have kept their relevance after two years.

something interesting I saw about The Watchers: it might be the first studio* film made by a Gen Z filmmaker (Ishana Night Shyamalan was born the same year as me).
 

*TECHNICALLY the film was made independently during the SAG strike as the deal with New Line hadn’t been signed yet, but they had already set a date for it publicly so let’s count it.
