Image result for you really need to relax gif

Movie's not out for another six weeks, no need to start pushing the hell out of it now.

See, I disagree with that...most families will buy tickets to 1 November movie...some will buy tickets to 2 movies...few will buy tickets to 3+...if you can't get your movie into a "top choice" position for November now, they just won't buy the tickets after they've bought them to multiple other movies (and since this movie is the last to come out of those choices, it's the most likely to lose out)...and this movie's concept won't age any better as we get into the winter holidays, unlike other possible non-1st choice Nov movies that might make top 2 in December and get later tickets...

I mean, it's still Pixar, so it's still probably $55M+ over Thanksgiving week, no matter how bad and how little buzz...but there's a lot of room between The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out's final DOM BO...

I think the trailer looks good, and I don't get why Disney has a hard time promoting multiple movies. I guess because they all have overlapping demographics, though you'd think Disney would make more of an effort for something that doesn't have a franchise to build interest. I hope the movie is good and does well despite the lackluster marketing.

i'm honestly ready for this to come out because I keep on getting the trailer and honestly I don't think it looks so hot

Looks middle of the road to me, so I'm guessing it might do Brave numbers.

Thinking Ratatouille numbers ($205M). I can see under $200M happening though.

That was a decade ago.  In 2017 $s it's about $266m - about the same as Brave

Adjusted that would make it the third lowest Pixar.  The current three lowest not coincidentally had OK to mediocre reviews.

I think  it's critical reception is more important than any belief or disinterest or lack of marketing

I read the picture book at Target today.

It's actually a pretty interesting story so far, though I do have some questions that I'm sure the movie will answer.

Spoiler

  • The movie is named after Miguel's grandmother, and frankly I will be surprised if she gets more than like twenty words either way
  • It gets very Brave-esque at one point. I'm sure you can guess at what.
  • It also gets very Up-ish. There were times I actually said "Jesus christ D:"

Wait, what?! Is sort of something secret there? Here in Mexico the marketing focusses in those two points, the first one makes me think it will resonate pretty good with audiences

There are 360m Americans + Canadians - plenty to go around if interest is there.  About 1 out of 10 will see Thor and/or JL in  November.

Last year there was Dr Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Moana - and Moana which was the third release finished higher.    In 2013 we had Thor 2, Catching Fire and Frozen - which combined did over $1b in domestic B.O. the last two over $400m each.

Those adjusted number really showcase how strong Pixar's box office records are, especially with most of of those being original films.
