BTW, this is the final update to Zootopia's Japanese total:

64 花より男子ファイナル 東宝 77.5 2008/06/28 *
65 シックス・センス 東宝東和 76.8 1999/10/30
66 ゲド戦記 東宝 76.5 2006/07/29 *
67 ズートピア(Zootopia) ディズニー 76.1 2016/04/23

94 名探偵コナン 純黒の悪夢(Detective Conan 2016) 東宝 62.8 2016/04/16

The text in in black, rather than red, so it's totally gone from theaters across the country. Basically, the final few tickets got it past ¥7.6 billion.

Could have been more, but

          Alice

          Dory

          DVD release

Great nevertheless  (Disney didn't want it to make more?)

Disney just loves to kill off their hit movies by releasing the dvds early. Frozen could have made more if they delayed the dvd release for few more months.

Disney wants to sell as many dvds as possible. Reckon they have optimized their money - making machine.

is that monday's number correct? because some report saying that 3 days weekend was ¥11.7 yen, meaning that monday's figure was "only" ¥400m yen, lower than what admission number had suggested

This is possible: for to make estimates based on Mimorin numbers we need to know 1) the % vs total tickets sold - 2)the average ticket price. For example the average ticket price could be  lower for the holiday monday (maybe there were more childrens among moviegoers than sat and sun) or the Mimorin market share could be different for this day. Usually for the first days of release those two numbers are still uncertain, and the predictions could be wrong, while after 2/3 weeks, with more reliable datas, they are accurate (but not perfect, obviously).

BTW I haven't seen actuals for monday yet. We'll see.

One Piece Film Gold opens this weekend and it's looking at major business, potentially a record breaking opening weekend if all goes well. The last film achieved the second biggest opening for a domestic film ever 4 years ago, and the new film will be playing on more than twice as many screens and will receive a premium format release.

It's taking the biggest screens away from Finding Dory at every theater, and its showtimes are already beginning to reach half-capacity or better (sell-outs are already popping up, too) nationwide with three days to go. A lot of theaters are also giving it a midnight release, which is very, very rare in the market. The Toho Cinema in Shinjuku is giving it 17 showings across 10 screens starting at 12AM and ending at 5AM ahead of the weekend.

It'll be receiving the widest release for a domestic film of all-time [743 screens], and is also being shown in 3D/4D, IMAX, and with English subtitles at certain locations.

I'll get to counting tickets later this evening to see how it's stacking up against other major openers at the 10 theaters I've always kept a close eye on, when a major opener like this approaches.

>Finding Dory claims the weekend crown, though perhaps coming in a little lower than expected for the sequel to Pixar's most-successful film in the market, Finding Nemo.

Dory's long-awaited adventure sold an impressive 553,066 admissions over the weekend frame across 511 screens. The debut comes in 24% below Toy Story 3; 17% below Finding Nemo; 12% below Monsters University.

However, unlike Pixar's other top openers, Dory opened over a three-day holiday weekend, earning a very impressive ¥1,174,184,200 ($11.2 million) on 921,766 admissions after Monday. Since Monday was actually its biggest day over the long-weekend, it's understandable that the weekend frame came in below the films mentioned above. I don't think Dory will be able to achieve the uber-blockbuster milestone of ¥10 billion, but typical Pixar legs should get the film to ¥8-¥9 billion ($75-85 million) with 6-7 million admissions.

>High & Low: The Movie earns itself a strong second place showing, selling 323,030 admissions over the weekend frame on 312 screens. The opening is certainly a success for Exile Tribe, one of Japan's supergroups, and even moreso when considering its three-day sum of ¥668,332,400 ($6.4 million) on 497,452 admissions after Monday. Shochiku is predicting the film to exceed the ¥3 billion ($30 million) milestone, which seems reasonable.

>Pokemon XY&Z: Volcanion and the Mechanical Magearna comes in a disappointing fourth place, selling just 289,971 admissions over the weekend frame on 366 screens. This debut is the second lowest in the franchise's long history, only ahead of the fifth film from 2002. The nineteenth entry in the series couldn't even manage a ¥500 million three-day gross, earning ¥475,547,600 ($4.6 million) on 430,987 admissions after Monday. It'll exceed ¥2 billion ($20 million) without any issues, but it's very likely to become the lowest-grossing film in the series when it tops out around ¥2.5 billion ($23/24 million).

>And finally, what I'm sure will be of interest, Zootopia officially ended its run on Friday; it finished with ¥7.61 billion ($70.5 million) and 5,899,045 admissions. That total earned it an incredible multiplier of 17.07

Here is how One Piece Film Gold compares to the four biggest openers of the past few years, excluding Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare, which I regrettably didn't track:

Advance Ticket Sales/Available Seats Available at ~44 hours before first showings begin:

25,355/40,834 (62.0%); 9 Theaters/95 Showings - Yo-Kai Watch: It's the Secret of Birth, Nyan! (2014)
17,499/35,427 (49.4%); 9 Theaters/81 Showings - One Piece Film Z (2012)
17,333/45,608 (38.0%); 10 Theaters/141 Showings - Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
11,672/30,112 (38.8%); 10 Theaters/105 Showings - Yo-Kai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan! (2015)
11,331/42,376 (26.7%); 10 Theaters/123 Showings - One Piece Film Gold (2016)

One Piece Film Gold happens to be the only summer release here (all the others were December openers), and that's certainly going to make a difference somehow. We'll just have to wait and see if its pre-sales represent more of its opening day admissions, or if the opposite is possible.

It's also worth noting that its seat reservations went up just yesterday, which is a lot later than the top three films on this list that received seat reservations weeks prior to opening, giving them a bit of a head start in terms of pre-sales at this stage. Yo-Kai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!'s seat reservations went up a few days before opening, just like One Piece Film Gold, so it's the most accurate comparison at this point.

I'll post a similar update tomorrow evening, and possibly one more on Friday before the weekend begins.

@Baumer

Maybe it will break out.

A good comparison for The Shallows is 10 Cloverfield Lane.

You can look here for that:

http://mimorin2014.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-11972.html

While 10 Cloverfield has more than 90,000 sampled seats, it was in 8th place rather than 7th place like The Shallows. This was because June isn't a busy time for movie theaters in Japan, so it wasn't competing with big releases.

Anyways, 10 Cloverfield Lane sold about 10,000 sampled tickets on its first Saturday. The Shallows is going to have to do a lot better than that to be considered a success.

Hopefully Lost Vacation is found by the people in Japan and it becomes a hit over there.

There was a Japanese critic who managed to see while he was in the states and put out a good word for it...I can't seem to find his tweet though because it was so long ago and I forget his name. Damn this sucks.
