JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Just now, Bart Allen said:

So given the typhoon - and that a great many people have probably yet to see the Joker - does that mean the numbers will increase? And what would you estimate Joker's end-run in Japan would and could be?

Seems like today will be affected by rugby world cup, it will make probably 70% admission of yesterday but given that Saturday triple last Saturday number. Probably will still increase or at worst drop by 10-15%.

That's still an overall good hold in Japan (depending on if it increases).

Depending on how many theaters there are for Joker come Halloween week, could the movie end up getting a boost around that time?

Interesting!

Wait how much has it made in Japan so far?

Currently with 1 hour before Rugby World Cup. Joker already get 80% of it's Saturday admission and 85% of last Sunday. So it's seems fine even though after 7pm local time it get much less than last week.

>Joker earns itself a third-consecutive weekend atop the box-office, once again achieving the #1 spot with relative ease. The film sold an additional 234,000 admissions in its third weekend, bringing its cumulative admissions up to an impressive 1,845,043. It's already the second highest grossing DC film ever, surpassing Superman II over the weekend. It'll go on to surpass Batman (1989) within the week to become DC's highest grossing film ever in the market, breaking a 30-year old record. So, where is it headed? It's clear the film is going to continue its leggy run, so it's difficult to pinpoint at the moment, but a total north of ¥4 billion ($40 million) is looking very good.

>Maleficent: Mistress of Evil failed to fly, selling just 158,000 admissions over the weekend frame across a whopping 828 screens; and selling 207,031 admissions since Friday. Its debut is down a disastrous 68% compared to its predecessor, and with expected weaker legs, it's likely to experience a decline over 70/75% in total. ¥1.5 billion ($15 million) is going to be the best it can do, but I doubt it quite reaches even that mark. Very, very disappointing result for Disney (and rare Angelina Jolie misfire) this time.

>Star☆Twinkle PreCure: Putting Thought into the Star Song, the 27th entry in the overall PreCure film franchise, settled for third place, selling 140,852 admissions over the weekend across 232 screens. This is down a good bit (35%) from this past Spring's release, but that film celebrating multiple series' coming together. I don't track the PreCure films as well as I should, but I believe this debut is in the standard range for the franchise.

>Weathering With You finally falls outside the Top 10. In its fourteenth-weekend of release, however, it surpassed The Last Samurai to become the 12th highest grossing film of all-time. Its cumulative admissions reached 10,277,360. Toho will keep the film playing in wide release for several more weeks despite the diminishing returns, and it'll likely continue to play into early next year in limited release. I expect it'll end up finishing with ¥14 billion ($130 million) on 10.5 million admissions.

Yup, that 4.2m weekend from Screendaily was wrong. No way it only decrease by 16% from first weekend while it's admission down by 35%.

This confirm very strong Mon-Fri for Joker too ($6.3m).

as dusts pretty much settle around the world, especially the uninspiring US domestic front, Joker's Japan run are still quite interesting to follow.

Today is an additional holiday, the Emperor enthronement day...showing Joker theater stubs the practice of the day in Social media, and few movies get the Joker spillover benefit, many night shows (now is around 3PM) are pretty much sold out already...

Yup as of right now with last update 16.30 in Tokyo, in terms of admission Joker already collected 1/2 of last Monday (holiday) admission and 3/4 of last Sunday. Should end with more admission than last Sunday. Probably $1.7-1.8m day.

Even in it's 3rd week, in last update too in one of major chains in Japan (Toho) Joker still fill 50% of it's seating capacity up until 2.30pm. Comparing with Maleficent which have 1.5 times it's total seats and with 20% less admission so far.

Very impressive

I think screendaily weekend numbers is from Friday to Sunday, while in Japan (Titanic2187 graphic) they consider weekend only Saturday and Sunday.

Corpse Still forgetting Constantine on this chart, I don't know how much Constantine made in ¥ in Japan, but it was around $24.5m (according Mojo) if we compare to Batman begins which is also from 2005 and made $14m or ¥ 1.40 billion, Constantine must have done something around ¥2.4- ¥2.5 billion.
