When Avatar came out, I thought it was better than Titanic. About 8 years later, it's pretty much flip-flopped for me entirely.

Watched this once again over the past two nights in honor of its 25th anniversary re-release. This is just one of those timeless movies that has lost absolutely none of its ability to move and astonish every single viewing even after a quarter of a century and the undeniable influence it's had on blockbuster filmmaking overall ever since. Cameron's masterpiece and will be justifiably celebrated as a classic forever.

This is miracle of filmmaking. The longer we move away from 1997, the more I appreciate and cherish this bygone romance epic.

Good that backlash against Titanic has largely died down but the enthusiastic love stay. Loser lose again after all. Now people again realised what a masterpiece Titanic is and it is romance epic that Hollywood can't, won't or don't know how to make anymore.

One of the most commercial films ever made. The definition of 4-quadrant blockbuster filmmaking. It has a very simple story and message, lots of jokes, DiCaprio is dolled up to the absolute extreme. The love story is inherently absurd (the romance of a lifetime over the course of 3? days) bu is perfectly cast and executed. The fitting in of the romance among the larger story of the Titanic sinking and painting the film as a broader message to live life to the fullest each day was also interesting.

 

It is a classic for what it is but the silliness of its love story prevents from reaching the heights of The Godfather in my opinion.

Nothing absurd about falling in love quickly. If Leo had survived who knows if it would have worked out between the two, maybe they would have grown apart but that's not the point and it's not like she didn't move on. For those few days love burned brightly.
