Jane Got a Gun (Portman/McGregor) | February 2016 sometime | Weinstein is actually going to release it (maybe).

Every of the last couple decades seems to have that wannabe mini-major that doesn't flame out due to flagrant overspending like Cannon/Orion/Carolco, but just sort of falls apart and goes out with a whimper. The 80s had DEG, the 90s had Savoy, the 00s had...I guess Overture? (Oddly enough, a lot of Overture staff went over to Relativity when they folded.)

There is no way in hell that the final movie (if it ever gets released) will be as fascinating as its behind the scenes history. There hasn't been a project this troubled since, perhaps, the infamous star-studded megabomb Town & Country.

At least Relativity had a better run than FilmDistrict. Studio pretty much got folded into Focus.

Only real success atm was Lionsgte/Summit, and they still have ways to go, especially for Awards.

Lionsgate has a real problem ahead of it after this year. Summit and FilmDistrict both had the same fate.

"Jane Got a Gun"-What Happened? Although a comedy about that would be better than documentary.

I dont think Lionsgate is up shits creek yet. Divergent franchise will buy them some time but they need to produce more films. Alot of the films they put out are still small indies that aren't going to make a dent.

2016 looks fairly solid. Nothing on Hunger Games level but Dirty Grandpa, Gods of Egypt and Deepwater Horizon could be a real hits.

Criminal

Dirty Grandpa

Alligiant P1

Gods of Egypt

Mechanic: Resurrection

Now You See Me 2

La La Land

Deepwater Horizon

^Mechanic: Resurrection? When was there a Mechanic movie?

It is a Jason Statham vehicle that opened a few years ago. Not sure why they are making a sequel. Now a Transporter sequel with Statham would be a real money maker right now.

Why am I not surprised? I read the title Mechanic and my actual first thought was "That sounds like a bad Jason Statham movie"

I think Statham said the Transporter money men low balled his salary. Even with him as the lead those were niche actioners. Most of his movies have done about $15-30m domestic with the couple of "breakouts" doing low 40s

Lionsgate has valuable IP like THG, Twilight and to a lesser extent Divergent and Expendables. Hell, Saw franchise is more valuable than anything Relativity has. They also have a very strong TV division and international sales arm. They may tank in a few years because their margin of error is tiny compared to majors but there is no comparison between LGF and Relativity Media as of now.

Yeah... Sep 4 2015 isn't happening for this at all

http://www.thewrap.com/relativity-shopping-jane-got-a-gun-the-bronze-collide-as-bankruptcy-looms-exclusive/

As bankruptcy looms for the troubled studio, Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media is putting three of its most high-profile titles on the block, including the Natalie Portman Western “Jane Got a Gun,” the raunchy Sundance comedy “The Bronze” and the Nicholas Hoult-Felicity Jones action-thriller “Collide,” an individual with knowledge of the situation has told TheWrap.

Relativity has invited a handful of buyers to upcoming screenings of those three movies, for which the company has struggled to meet its contractual obligations.

A representative for Relativity declined to comment for this story.

Last week, Sony sent Relativity a cure letter notifying Kavanaugh’s company that it intends to terminate its deal for U.S. rights to “The Bronze,” which Relativity bought at Sundance for $3 million.

“Jane Got a Gun,” however, may be the most valuable finished film in Relativity’s upcoming stable. The film, which was expected to be jointly distributed with The Weinstein Company, is already well known for the last-minute director swap from Lynne Ramsay to Gavin O’Connor. Relativity’s current troubles continue to do the film no favors.

“Jane” is slated to open on Sept. 4, but Relativity and TWC have yet to release a poster or a trailer — necessary marketing materials for even the smallest of films, let alone a star-studded Western with an Oscar-winning cast.

Reached for comment, producer Scott Steindorff told TheWrap that “Jane Got a Gun” is “definitely moving out of September,” while insiders suggest the film will be delayed until 2016 since TWC (or another distributor) would need time to mount a proper marketing campaign.
