I would've liked it more if Rhaegal saved Jon rather than Benjen.

 

Would've made more sense IMO and I like dragons.

Bejen was a arc that they have to complete, so they did it here. Jon should not have gone much far from drogon in the first place.

Dany is Rhaegal's mother so to speak, but she's only fully bonded with Drogon. If Rhaegal bonded with another, it'd be that person it'd take cues from.

 

So it's more of a loose authority she has.

Then maybe Rhaegal decided that it wasn't worth the risk. He lost his brother and his mother lost her son, I guess not giving her more grief was his priority which makes perfect sense. I'm sure that Jon will ride Rhaegal sometime. Also, Viserion kill also kills the three dragon riders theory (aka Tyrion Targeryan). 

 

And as @4815162342 says, Dany fully bonded with Drogon and Jon hasn't bonded with Rhaegal yet. Tyrion has more bond with him cause he petted and freed Rhaegal and Viserion. So no reason for Rhaegal to come to Jon's aid yet, Targ blood or not. especially when Jon disappeared under the water. Uh-oh.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I still really like the show (for the most part, anyway). Just didn't like some of the decisions they made this episode.

That's exactly what I meant. Knocking pieces of the board. In season 8 Meera reed and ghost will come again and die in the same episode. Same with nymeria. Don't know what will happen with daario naharis.

Tyrion was far worse in Season 5.

 

 

Bookwise I think the three riders theory will play out with Euron stealing a dragon via Victarion as proxy, and then after he's instilled chaos  and bloodshed and seems about to gain real power that dragon gets stolen from him via Bran "assuming control" via warging.

I think it would've made a good opportunity to build up to a bond between them, if they want to go down that route. 

 

Plus it just would've made more sense to me rather than have Benjen show up JUST in the knick of time, since at least we know Rhaegal was actually there when Jon went under.

His character arc got totally absorbed into Dany's. It's her story and he's just there, without an arc of his own.

Tyrion has had like 1000 times more to play with than last season, when he just sat around Mereen doing nothing. Love the Dink but no idea how he even got an Emmy nom. Personally I think this is his best season since 4.
