There's a reason its effects were considered revolutionary and it sweeped the technical Oscars. Bullet time gimmick is as outdated as TPM. Now it is seen as a lame effect trend when every shitty DTD and syfy TV show have overdone it to death. Generally speaking, a movie that wins the Best VFX Oscar might not have technically the most innovative VFX (though often they do), it needs to have panache. That was the only thing innovative in terms of VFX and that wasn't even invented/pionneered with this movie...They took an already existing visual process 10 years before and extended it, pushing it further to make it mainstream.
