Friday Numbers - ED 30M+, JP 17 (30M and 17M predicted OW)

Recommended Posts

THE CROODS: $21.1M Weekend (est) / $125.80M Domestic Total / 3,879 Locations / $5,440 Location Avg. #TheCroods

That's more like it. I saw that $20 mil estimate and that seemed a bit low for a family film after a $6 mil Friday. That should be enough to lock up the #2 spot for the weekend. :D

Photo finish ending for GI Joe and Croods. Monday actuals will decide which stays in second and in third. Still, great for both.

Jurassic Park 3D could have done better I think if there were more 2D showings. There are zero 2D showings anywhere near me. The high price alone will turn people away

That is my biggest problem with these re-releases, they charge full modern day prices even though the cost of making the original has long been covered. We have a yearly digital film fest and classic Mondays where the big multiplexes show old (generally from 1970-2000) movies, but they only charge $6 rather than the $12.99 for new movies. JP 3D is $15.99, and that's the 1 reason I didn't see it this weekend. Maybe I might possibly see it on discount Tuesday, but that's still iffy.

Numbers are up on BOM. Great numbers all around.

How much chance is there for OHF to cross 100M? I hope it enjoys the leg Law Abiding Citizen had a couple of years back.

Oz finally gains some traction, compared to AiW. 240 is now doable.

With such a strong number when will the Place beyond the Pines go wide? Too few April release should play positive role for it.

Paying 15 bucks in theaters for a film u already own is hobestly ridiculous. Ill do it with SW and Titanic but not for every film film that gets a 3D rerelease. Thats juat a waste of money imo. With a projected 45 mill finish thats just gravy for JP.

I agree. If possible, they should have charged $10 at the absolute maximum to see this film in 3D ($7 would be better). There should have also been more 2D showings since many people skip 3D films all together. I think they could have handled this release better and it would have been much more lucrative.

It MIGHT be just gravy.  I've seen some numbers on 3D rereleases though...when you consider the conversion costs probably $10M+, maybe more, and the P&A spend to put the film in the theater just domestically is probably $20M...it's not really THAT profitable, if at all.

But it doesn't really lose money, the 3D conversion has long term uses...and it acts kind of like advertising for the franchise as a whole.  So I wouldn't say it hurts.

Plus it reminds everyone of Jurassic Park. Im sure Blu-ray sales sky rocketed this week too. Plus it can do 100m overseas in 3D.
