RichWS
Wait this new trend is related to AURORA??? God this country has become a bunch of pussies. If somebody wants to shoot up a movie premiere there's nothing stopping them doing at 9pm versus 12am. It's also getting more screenings in to make more money. kayumanggi
NOT 500m in 2 weekends. It's really amazing. I expected 600 M overseas. 800 M is very possible.
spizzer
What should be looked for next is Nikki's ~5PM EST mid-day report. That's usually a strong indicator (if not outright declaration) of how the matinees have been doing. If we're hearing that its in the realm of 40M, that puts 75-80M in play for the full Friday (including this 15.6M).

redfirebird2008
Wait this new trend is related to AURORA??? God this country has become a bunch of pussies. If somebody wants to shoot up a movie premiere there's nothing stopping them doing at 9pm versus 12am. The studios believed the shooting created a stigma about midnight shows, so they started moving the midnight shows to 10 PM, 9 PM, etc. The lame part is when they decided to start treating those shows as actual midnight shows. As Spizzer has shown with his reports, a 9 PM start allows for a shitload more showtimes staggered from 9 PM to 1 AM. As he said yesterday, it's basically an extra half-day for the weekend. Olive
#IronMan3 rises to $361M worldwide incl US THU night. After just 2 days, China is already the top-grossing mkt w/ $30M.
CoolioD1
Yes, that is how everyone in Hollywood has been doing it since Aurora. Doesn't seem right that IM1, AWE, MR, and others had previews carved out but everything since 7/20/2012 gets lumped in with Friday. They didn't do that with Skyfall IIRC. I can't see how Iron Man 2's WW gross isn't falling by Sunday now. They didn't do that with Skyfall IIRC. Neither did Hobbit. In fact, I'd say the level of frontloading Hobbit displayed to midnights is probably proof enough that people aren't "afraid" of going to midnights, if they ever really were. Doing these previews is a way of studios artificially extending the OW.
