Any REAL doubts that SUPERMAN vs. BATMAN will crush every record in existence?

Recommended Posts

This is the 4th front page of yahoo news headline devoted to the film in 8 days! It's 2 years away!

It seems pretty obvious that, media wise SUPERMAN vs. BATMAN is the most talked about film of (what remains of) 2013, of all 2014, and 2015. Star Wars and especially Avengers are being completely dwarfed by the attention. Media is a huge piece of advertising- after all, it was the media frenzy surrounding the death of Heath Ledger (and all the "OMG HE/THE FILM  ARE AMAZING!!" that went with it) that made THE DARK KNIGHT go from a 115-120 million opener to the 158 millon record crusher it was.

Awareness for Superman vs. Batman is higher RIGHT NOW than the awareness for most films ever is, which is just staggering considering it is so far away. Seeing folks thinkings it is going to open to 160-170 million in 2015 dollars w/ 3D and IMAX in the middle of July.

PUH - LEASE. Need to take a look at what THE DARK KNIGHT RISES would have hit with 3D and no shooting (160m without shooting =190ish, with 3D = 220mish). Adjust that 220m to 2015 dollars and were in the 240 range. SVB aint opening below 200 million, people. It is going to come extremely close to breaking whatever the record is at the time, if not top it all together.

Make no mistake, the media frenzy surround Supes. vs. Bats will rival some of the great in cinematic history. BATMAN in 1989. JURASSIC PARK in 1993. INDEPENDENCE DAY in 1996. STAR WARS in 1999. HARRY POTTER in 2001. MATRIX RELOADED in 2003. THE DARK KNIGHT in 2008.

The movie is going the fucking huge, / rant

And what was your prediction for Man of Steel?

Hate to be the voice of reason here (okay, I love it really), but the reason BvS is talked about so much at the moment is because of the still somewhat recent casting of Ben Affleck as Batman which, as well as being a high profile casting, caused a fair share of controversy, hence discussion.

Give it another couple of months, without any major news, (or alternately, major news about either Marvel or Star Wars) and BvS discussion levels will drop to about the same as other high profile superhero movies.

Nope. I don't see it happening. Maybe if Man of steel was better received critically  (i thought it was great) but i don't see any major records going down. Maybe July OW but that's it. But than again its too early to call this now. Who knows what the trailer will bring, what interest will be like in 2015.

I'm not sold on this at all. Avengers 2 will be the biggest film of 2015, sorry, not Superman vs Batman (or whatever it is being called). As popular as Superman is, RDJ has taken the GA and transformed Iron Man in being the biggest 'must see' character in the last few years. People are more pumped for Iron Man right now (specifically saying right now, not in general since superman in general I think is more well known and loved) and any movie vs superman or batman.

A lot of the talk surrounding superman vs batman is a lot of hate towards Affleck being batman, not so much positive news. We'll get a better feel for this when the first trailer comes around. Right now, you have to go with Avengers 2, hands down. It's not even a contest.

absolutely not. If anything Batman vs Superman is not has hyped as it should be for many reasons.

1. We have people who didn't like MOS and don't care to see a continuation, but we also have people who really liked MOS who are mad that instead of a proper MOS sequel focusing entirely on Superman they are throwing Batman in there and Batman will likely overshadow everything. It is clear he is just being thrown in there for the film to make more money no matter what.

2. The fanbase and general audience is divided on whether Ben Affleck is a good choice for Batman or not

3. People who are upset that Christian Bale is not playing Batman and the whole Christopher Nolan series is already getting rebooted. You can't blame them. The TDK trilogy is still fresh in everyone's minds and Bale was the perfect Batman similar to Christopher Reeve as Superman. Many people who don't follow articles on the internet expected Bale to come back and to see his Batman toy with Superman. It is equivalent to if RDJ made three Iron Man movies then was recast for The Avengers.

Avengers 2 will easily beat it in a huge way.
