cookie
Into Darkness has all the makings of a great movie but is bogged down by all the bullshit in between. But I wouldn't call it bad, far from it. Edited July 14, 2016 by cookie
DMan7
Glad it's getting good reactions, loved the first movie the 2nd one not soo much but it was still a decent enough flick.

I was only comparing the 1st release of the reboot films to the first release of the original films, and comparing the 2nd releasee of the reboot films to the 2nd release of the original films. 1. Star Trek had larger ticket sales in adjusted dollars and more total admission the Star Trek the Motion Picture. 2. Into Darkness had larger tickets sales in adjusted dollars, but didn't actually have more admission then wrath of Khan and I was hoping that Beyond would continue at least what Into darkness did in relationship to Search for Spock. Oh okay. I doubt Beyond continues the trend, especially if it opens with only 50m.

RobinHood26
I knew it. Lin had it in him! The dude lives for this, this is his dream movie. So glad to hear he killed it. Crossing my fingers this hits 500m WW
JohnnyGossamer
Lin did an impeccable job with Fast Five and Furious 6 too. With that, I had moderately high expectations for Beyond. Hoping the buzz remains good to great. Edited July 14, 2016 by JohnnyGossamer

Elessar
Glad it's getting great reactions. Still would have preferred them going a different route story wise but at least it seems to be a fun ride. Hype is growing, already digging Jaylah. What can i say, i have a thing for hot alien chicks...

noknobs
I really liked Star Trek 09 & STID. I saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it as well. I do think it will be more pleasing to the hardcore trekkies as far as the story, and it continues to have great action & some good humor along the way. The gay Sulu controversy is waaay overblown. It was sad seeing Anton & Nimoy.
Jessie
17 hours ago, DamienRoc said: I think the thing about STID is that it works at the level that Abrams is very good at, by creating that enjoyable atmosphere that really is fun. And that means that, yes, most people will like it. I don't think it should be construed that consensus "I like this" means that it's a loved film. The problem with it is that as the film goes on, it gets weighed down with the efforts to be referential and reverential to very specific moments in an earlier film. This is, honestly, the same problem that TFA has. The more the film goes on, the more it's insistent on being very much like the OT, which undermines its ability to stand on its own. ST09, despite being really, really bad in terms of science, was pretty clear that it just wanted to be a fun ride, mostly in the vein of Star Wars (rather than Star Trek), so it felt fresh and new. I suppose, in an oblique way, the Super 8 runs into the same problem as STID and TFA. It's pretty consumed with being Spielbergian, though not so much with specific references. Abrams never brings anything new to the table, he simply mimics filmmakers he admires and I don't mind that if I'm being honest because I have fun watching them. IMO he was perfect for star wars. The biggest complaint of the prequels was how it lacked the fun and feel of the original trilogy so he was perfect for mimicking that similar feel. No doubt Rian Johnsons take will have a more independent feel but abrams started this trilogy off on familiar, likable territory Edited July 15, 2016 by Jessie
