Jonwo
I doubt Paramount would let someone who has never directed before direct a tentpole like Star Trek 3 since the film will likely be the centrepiece of the franchise's 50th Anniversary. 4815162342
Orci possibly directing? Devin Faraci melts down (in a hipstery sort of way): Please Jesus, Don't Let Roberto Orci Direct Star Trek 3
Kvikk Lunsj
Orci/Kurtzman split up. One's directing Venom, the other's directing Star Trek 3. We all winHopefully Venom comes out in 2016. Then they can fight each other for box office crown.
RichWS
Yea but that other guy was a DP on his first directing gig, Orci is a writer which can become a more successful director than a DP IMO. How's that?
4815162342
Orci may very well have good directorial instincts, but I sure wouldn't want him to direct a film he wrote the script for

darkelf
What are the odds of that? The same as the odds for Wally Pfister getting another $100M sci-fi flick.

Neo
Its really odd that they're thinking about letting someone with no experience direct one of these major movies. Did they not just see what happened with some other guy's directorial debut? Guess you don't about may directors first movies or first tentpoles. DMan7
How's that? Aren't the writers closer to the directorial process than the DP?
John Marston
the fact that there is still not official release date yet shows that STID definitely underperformed
RichWS
Aren't the writers closer to the directorial process than the DP? DP's are working on set with the director every day in pre-production and during shooting.

Captain Craig
the fact that there is still not official release date yet shows that STID definitely underperformed Not hardly. The film did fine. It's performance can't be blamed on those who took crazy leaps of logic while flying over the canyon of the franchises history(including the studio). It's the franchises 50th year, bank on a film.
Deep Wang
I would rather a great writer direct than a DP personally. A great writer will still pay attention to things like character and plot and themes, etc. They can always become a better and stronger director.
