baumer
Right data is: Italy Amazing Spiderman 5-days opening officials TASM1 € 4.442.751 adm 602.531 TASM2 € 4.582.140 adm 621.518 (6,35M$) ASM 5,52 is 3-days weekend Japan ASM 7,4 is 3-days weekend, 4,1 is 2-days weekend "The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the only film not to be overestimated largely due to high avg. ticket price of ¥1,541 ($15.1). It didn't open too bad actually, taking in ¥420,297,900 ($4.1 million) with 272,709 admissions on 761 screens. It's still down 28% compared to the first film's opening weekend, but it should have better legs with the Golden Week boost and less competition later into its run." Thank you. I'm still not up on how different countries count their weekends.
edroger3
Thank you. I'm still not up on how different countries count their weekends. It's not easy, for example in Italy before 2013 opening day was on friday, now it's on thursday. Other, for some blockbusters like TASM 1/2, opening day is anticipated on wednesday. In Japan usually for local movies opening day is on saturday, but for foreigns sometimes it's on friday.
baumer
Anyone know or understand the logic of opening ASM2 on Sunday in China? Do the Chinese not go to movies on holiday weekends?
SchumacherFTW
Anyone know or understand the logic of opening ASM2 on Sunday in China? Do the Chinese not go to movies on holiday weekends? edroger3
Chinese government hate to give any form of advantage to Hollywood movies. It's pretty stupid. Despite this, some hollywood movies opened higher in China than in North America, so studios look at the chinese market as the new heaven on earth and and gladly accept these impositions. scabab
Hey Scabab.. Oh yes its just a tiny bit better than Batman and Robin, which is fine for a 3rd tier debut hero.. Shockingly a disgrace for a Spiderman film. And shit SM3 with all its flaws makes ASM2 look like an oscar winner. Leagues better than the reboot sequel and a tad better than TASM. Still no.
edroger3
News from Japan Tuesday (first day of Golden Week) estimates Frozen 440k adm M$5.8 Thermae 2 275k adm M$3.0 Conan 235k adm M$2.6TASM2 150k adm M$2.2 TASM2 make a good day (same level of opening sat/sun). Unfortunately competition is still strong: local titles continues to work hard and frozen had almost all shows in sold-out, so in next days TASM2 will switch the bigger screens with disney's animated, losing seats.

I think $7.4m is indeed 2-day weekend number. In yen it was around 590m, so in today's exchange rate it would be $5.75m. TASM2's OW ($4.1m) is exactly 28% smaller than $5.75m. So it was correct. catlover
JESUS CHRIST!Did Conan The Barbarian just get released over there AND ITS MAKING MORE MONEY. No, it's Detective Conan, a Japanese anime movie. According to BOM did 11,5M$ in 1st week, but I don't know for how many days it played. I think $7.4 is the 2-day OW, and the rest of $11.5m came from 2 days of previews on the previous weekend.

It has to reach the likes of $90 - $100M in China and not drop over $50% in the other opened markets for the next 3 weeks to have a chance to reach $500 - $530M overseas. I think $550M is dead and $440 - $490 is more likely. Edited April 30, 2014 by Ent
