There was no way I was seeing this in the first place but I kinda want that running time to be real just for the laughs.

I doubt they gave money to Scorsese on that movie production (or knew the runtime when they acquired the movie distribution at Cannes), it was independently made and financed with many partners (at least 5 different financiers).

Paul Breuls' Corsan Films was also reportedly funding the project.^[22] Additionally, it was announced that the film would be shot in Taiwan.

 

Paramount was probably a distribution deal on some market (a bit like WB with Cloud Atlas).

3 hours. How many big blockbusters have big blockbusters go that far?

 

Maybe Michael don't want this one to feel rushed this time.

AMC Theaters lists the film with a run time of 148 minutes. . . I'd believe a theater playing the movie a bit more.
