How many big name directors would actually agree to come onboard what is now bound to be a rushed production for them? Either they will get a journeyman director to make the date, or they will get a big name and delay this. It's just 14 months from release which would be a crazy short time for a new director to come onboard and try to mould the script to their liking considering the large number of stakeholders associated with the IP.

I wonder if summer 2020 is an option? I know there hasn’t been a Bond film in summer in yonks but there are slots especially in June or July. They could even delay until November 2020

James Bond being a sought after job has got to be the weirdest development of this franchise.

Nobody ever gave a fuck about Guy Hamilton & John Glen.

Seems the franchise needed some odd 40 years to gain some sort of respectability from the cinephile & critics loosers.

When was the last non-November Bond film....

"License to Kill" back in 1989.

All the Dalton and Moore Bond films except for "Man With The Golden Gun" were Summer releases.

The Connory films were all over the Calender for release dates, although the two biggest Bond films (when inflation is figured in) "Goldfinger " and "Thunderball" had Christmas releases.

I stand corrected, that had a December release date.

But Licence to Kill was the last with a summer release date.

McQuarrie has a good experience in touch-up rework of already on-going production with many already locked when not already shoot element, doing it all the time for Cruise. Sound like a good candidate.

How likely are though to hire the direct competition? And I don't see Cruise or Paramount being happy to losing McQ to Bond. It's like JJ moving from Trek to Wars.

Most likely - Campbell or the previous shortlist of Demange or Mackenzie (Villeneuve is too busy on Dune right now)
