Weekend Numbers: GOTG - 94M (PG 180) [25.5M Sunday (Spatula) Cancel the Godzilla legs!]

This is awesome for Guardians! Hope it won't be front-loaded though. The marketing was pretty agressive and there were a lot of people rushing to see it. At this point, there's a 50/50 chance of hitting 100M.

It's not even close to a midnight release, so I am not sure why the midnight list keeps getting added to with 7 PM openings.

I know the word of mouth is insane...but someone slap some sense into me..is there any chance the previews are REALLY front loaded and the numbers from the preview don't translate to a over 80 million opening weekend?

No reason for it to be more front-loaded than Cap 2 was over the OW so 100M OW is very likely. Only thing against this comparison is time of the release. OW multiplier might not be as strong as most Marvel movies since it opened in late summer but it's also not a sequel and WOM is strong so that could cancel each other out.

So even of it follows Cap2, it'll still get to 100M.

Yeah, but there are few different variables.  It might less front loaded because it's not a sequel or more because it opened at 7pm instead of 8pm and in August instead of April (Cap 1 did 20% higher Thur than Thor 1 [late July v May] and wound up making just a bit less o/w)
