So Lincoln, Lost World, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones 4 are Spielberg's biggest DOMs post JP (1993)? I hope RPO beats Lincoln but seems tough. 

 

Would need something like:

25 + 20 (-20%) + 14.5 (-27.5%)+ 7 (-52%) = 59.5 FSS / 66.5 FSSM 

Then 183 dom needs 3.1x FSS and 2.75x FSSM

One thing I'll give RPO trailers. At least they tell you what the film is about unlike last week's sci fi fantasy release. Now to see if filmgoers care.

It is doing pretty well on Pulse two weeks in advance. The SXSW thing (as well as the good reviews) definitely seems to have worked.

 

RPO might not be the flop I predicted.

I agree. And the "Pure Imagination" trailer should have been the second and final.

 

The first teaser from Comic Con last summer, and the follow up trailer they ran with in December (with horrible use of Van Halen's Jump) were both boring. Up until a month ago, the marketing for this felt very dull, but this late marketing push (studio must have realized the buzz was lacking) both give a feeling of warmth and humanity, whereas the first trailers felt cold and mechanic.

Spielberg produces nothing but magic when he dips into the extraordinary. I will be first in line to witness this greatness (possibly one of a few based on tracking). I don't care. Tintin was a middling success, but it had some of the most awesome action set pieces in recent memory thanks to that Spielberg touch. If this is at the same level, I will definitely have repeated viewings.

Should wait for the movie of course, but that main title sounds out of place af in a movie about futuristic videogames and artificial realities.

Alright, I jumped the gun a bit with the earlier lousy reviews. It does only seem as good as it does now though because of the upward trend. Really not far removed from Spielberg's other recent "movies" that aren't "films".
