One man driving down a road talking on the phone about concrete. Doesn’t sound like a big hook for a movie, but man does Locke deliver. The movie is just amazing considering that all we see is Tom Hardy in a car for 90 minutes. Hardy delivers an unfairly overlooked performance in this movie. Just him alone on the screen provide some of the most engaging moments in movies in 2014. Don’t think any other actor could have carried this movie the way Hardy did. Too bad his follow-up tentpole movie is Mad Max

“Fascinating and quietly brilliant film. I loved it. My best friend and mom did too, but they DESPISED the ending. It certainly isn't the most emotionally satisfying, but it doesn't matter to me. It's not at all about the ending- it's clearly a movie about the destination. It's like a stage play that unfolds on screen- the dialogue and the thematic complexity and the brilliant way the narrative unfolds so simply is just a joy to watch. Yes, by like a hundred miles. Tom Hardy is phenomenal in Locke. It's rare to see a film that relies so heavily on its central character's performance, and even rarer to see one that pulls it off.

Damn, I didn't vote for The Wind Rises because I thought it was considered a 2013 film.  Would have been top 5.

Yeah, no. I'm going to go by the release when it could have actually been seen. It got an actual release in February 2014, ergo it's a 2014 film.
