Christmas Numbers: Unbroken 15.59, ITW 15.1, BOFTA 13.1, NATM 7.35 (official estimates) | full BOM list on p22

A movie with no stars, no awards traction and poor reviews.

Yep, never underestimate the people who believe Earth was created in 7 days 3000 years ago.

Mel Gibson is good friends with these folks.

The only bad thing (in my opinion, alright?) about Unbroken´s possible breakout is that, once again, we have a most-likely-successful film that presents more negative images of Asians. I know that to some of you that's a lame thing to say and that we should all "get over it," but in an industry that rarely if at all makes any effort to nurture and create Asian American film stars, and rarely if at all creates movies about their stories, it really bothers me that all the images of Asians that we keep perpetuating are stereotypical martial arts superpeople or caricaturesque villains.  End of rant.

Next up, hopefully she'll direct at some point a film with a female protagonist...

Christmas Day numbers are effing huge this year. Great way to end this lackluster year and move into 2015 on a high note.

Speaking of 2015, imagine how next Christmas Day will be with Star Wars leading the pack... And landing on a Friday.

Is The Gambler flopping? I missed those numbers amongst all the stanning

I think deadline said something like 4.6M last night, which seems to be more than good enough. Not huge, but for that movie it'll be fine.

But... but... it's a true story and the real dude was actually worse.

Judging from the last time Christmas fell on a Thursday, and looking at the two big adult thrillers/dramas of that day, Valkyrie and Benjamin Button, Unbroken would be headed for 152 million if it followed Valkyrie's multiplier and 168 million if it followed Button's. While it does have a large book fanbase and more middling reviews, I don't think that somewhere in the range of those two numbers is at all unrealistic.

Agreed, saddest thing about Sony leak was Sorkin mentioning something about a movie he was doing but can't make because "there are no Asian stars".

That said, Unbroken depicts events in Japan POW camps truthfully, so it wasn't an intentional kind of thing.

Angelina's next movie stars herself and Brad, but I agree, she seems drawn to more masculine fare - and the one after By the Sea is another biopic about a man.

I support this and it is totally because I'm Asian and not insecure about Tele's stupid club
