Those aren't great either. IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is basically the movie equivalent of a Hallmark card.

Which even if were true (and it's not) would not make it a "message movie" unless that term applies to any movie that's about something. :P   Hell, The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Rises are far more message movies if that's the criteria.

No he's very good.

He's one of my favorite directors of all time, and Vertigo and Psycho are among my favorite movies of all time, so to say that I despise Tele's choice of #1 would be an understatement.

Other than just telling me I'm wrong.... why am I wrong? (in terms of PSYCHO, at least). :)

I'd rather discuss how wrong you are...

Morally, ethically

Spiritually, physically

Positively, absolutely

Undeniably and reliably wrong!

Not only merely wrong

Really most sincerely wrong

Now if you'd picked Vertigo... but that would be on my list.

I've seen 6 of the films on this list. I disagree with 5 of them. The one that I do agree with I still love but it's overrated.

Ethan, stop legitimizing Tele's list.

So basically this turned into the, Hitchcock Is Overrated thread.

because he is. according to TSPDT's compilation of critic's top 250 directors, he's the best all-time. hardly. he's a studio director who made a couple of really good films a shitton of awful ones.

Vertigo and Shadow of a Doubt are my favorite Hitchcocks. The former is easily his most personal and artful movie, and the latter is like a proto-Blue Velvet which I frankly enjoy more than Blue Velvet.

Rear Window is great too. I still have like a dozen of his films I want to see.
