58 million dollar budget....wow.  Stunning.

WOW I think we should also add the fact that its gonna be the first R-rated movie to hit 400m. :o

WB just pulled off a monstrous win. :o

Pleased to see Paddington doing well... Its a lovely little movie and deserves it.

AS : no words. Looking at a sub 30% weekend drop now. After doubling the Jan OW record. If it keeps this pace up $400m is done. Will rework my spreadsheet (when I get out of bed)

I can't believe AS is likely headed for top 10 DOM all time. So incredibly stupid (spare me the responses AS lovers, won't change my opinion on this).

It will take a shot at #2 DOM of all time if it wins BP. I'm dead serious (though I wish I wasn't). The Academy better fucking not.

Certainly it's a more worthy film than Passion of the christ, a gimmick that relied on to rupture porn to earn the money it did. If you don't enjoy seeing big box office runs, why are you on this site? It's certainly more satisfying to to see than the same damn superheroes ruling the box office every year.

Also I'd rather the Academy gave this the Oscars than the overrated Boyhood movie.

if AS makes 450+ and doesn't win BP, it will make future Academy Awards worthless

People will think, what do these old members (and non-members) know

People already think that, that's apparent by the drop in views. The public should vote for the best film of the year

lol there's a difference between most popular or most watched film and best film of the year.

Let's not get into this bullshit again.

The Academy gives fuck all what you think since people who would vote for Chris Evans as Best Actor or Kirsten Stewart for Best Actress and Transformers: Dark of the Moon for Best Picture. Wait, wait, if the people would vote for it, doesn't that mean that they are the best?

That's like letting children run the school. There is no logic in this recycled argument. Retire it FFS.

I agree voting the biggest hit as the best film is the worst idea ever. Academy should be about rewarding the best creativity. While that is subjective and subject to debate almost every year its better that way.

I have just seen AS. Cooper was amazing. Obviously, I haven't read the book and I just want to judge the movie based on its own merits. I thought it was really good. However, I am still amazed by how it is performing in the box office. There have been amazing Oscar baits in the past but none has performed like this one. There is really something about the movie that has struck the hearts of the general population.

I am thinking of 68 M for the second weekend. 70 M would be sweet though.

So what you're saying is the academy know what the best films is whereas the viewers are clueless? So the artist was better than everything in its year because the academy said so? No, the best film of the year according to the academy is the one that has the biggest oscar campaign lol.

Annie Hall is better than SW

Gandhi better than ET

Ordinary People is better than Empire Strikes Back

Out of Africa is better than Back to The Future

Yep. The academy always votes for the best film. Always.

So assuming a 40% drop today, weekend should finish at $64.7m.

I've got it making another $18.8m for the week, bringing week 2 (WIDE) total to $83.5m, just under a 37% drop week to week. However, if you strip out the Mondays where MLK was overinflated, the week to week drop is just over 30%. Using 30% weekly drops from here on in, it's on track for around a $415m total  :o

Just for fun, assuming it starts to hold even better at 25% weekly drops, we're looking at... wait for it...$470m
