Eh, it's really only Jake, Tribefan, and I that really disliked it.

I didn't like it at all and can't believe Miller was nominated, but I better shut up on the subject. I'm not allowed to call anything "undeserving." It's apparently against the rules on a discussion based message board.

For whoever was asking about Exodus Gods And Kings a few pages ago, it's still playing in over 150 theaters, so expect actuals to be reported Monday afternoon.

That was me. Thanks. I thought it closed since there was no info on it anymore.

lol, friend of mine said Inherent Vice is a mess and the only good thing about it was the acting.

I only brought it up because I watched it last night. (On second try, after giving up after 60 minutes when we tried 2 weeks ago. This time I was alone.)

The acting was good, the soundtrack was good, the movie as a whole was decent. I've seen people online refer to it as impenetrable. That's a great word. He just goes around talking with different people and learning different things about what's really going on. Characters float in and out, some never to be seen again. I'm not sure how much it really adds up to in the end. Some motivations aren't terribly clear, but it does have a few oddball laughs scattered throughout.

Inherent Vice was the best movie of last year btw.

no

But to each their own of course. We get thousands of movies each year, and all of them have people that like them. Just because you disagree with other people or with the nominations of the Academy doesn't mean they're wrong, it just means they don't share your opinion. Though the way the Academy nominates some of their favorites each year is rather annoying, or nominations that seem more based on past performance or an actor's career as a whole instead of just the quality of the current film.

And how the hell Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get nominated is just ridiculous. He was brilliant in Nightcrawler. Though of course Keaton and Cumberbatch were both superb too. For the people asking for recommendations before, you have to watch Birdman!

Although I liked Foxcatcher, it's lol-worthy that everyone's yelling at everyone to stop expressing their opinion. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, what's more annoying, someone expressing that a movie doesn't deserve money or Pokemon porn?

I can never figure out why some people hate on certain movies making big bucks just because they didn't like the film. Why are you so personally insulted and invested? Hollywood is a business and its first priority is to make money not to make movies that only you will like. Movies try to appeal to the biggest audiences possible and there will be some you disagree with (for instance Alice in Wonderland 1B dollars? Seriously?), that's inevitable, but it's not like this movie is costing you your job or anything. Look at the big picture, life goes on.

I think the Academy is hit and miss.

Sometimes they award the films that were not that popular and bring them to the limelight.

However recently i find they award films that really appeal to film buffs and Academy voters and critics.

if AS makes 450+ and doesn't win BP, it will make future Academy Awards worthless

People will think, what do these old members (and non-members) know

People already do think the oscars are worthless. I bet you 1000 dollars, most people who watch the show don't watch it to see who the winners are, but to see what gowns the actresses are wearing.

lol there's a difference between most popular or most watched film and best film of the year.

Let's not get into this bullshit again.

The Academy gives fuck all what you think since people who would vote for Chris Evans as Best Actor or Kirsten Stewart for Best Actress and Transformers: Dark of the Moon for Best Picture. Wait, wait, if the people would vote for it, doesn't that mean that they are the best?

That's like letting children run the school. There is no logic in this recycled argument. Retire it FFS.

I can't buy the oscars knowing what best for nothing, especially when we got the likes of Harvey Weinstein somehow involved with more oscar wins than any other human in existence. I say, the oscars are going to award the ones where the producers are padding their pockets the most. And this is hollywood, where it's just as corrupt as Washington.
