RAMPAGE | 13 April 2018 | Warner Brothers | Dwayne Johnson

I do hope a sequel comes down the pipeline at some point. Given DJ's insistence on solo franchises, he might consider. Particularly if Skyscraper doesn't work out. He has: San Andreas 2 (lul wut? but will probably perform well), Jumanji 2 (a group picture), Black Adam (who knows if this will really materialize for him given the state of DC movies + shared franchise character), and his F&F spin-off. I think there could be room in his schedule/desires for another tent pole all his own given the moderate success of Rampage.

It might not do as well, but the original pulled in $473 million and seems fairly well-received by general audiences, so unless Rock fatigue sets in, I'd put decent money on it at least breaking even. Regardless, it would be more or less in the can fairly soon, so that entry in his (potential) franchise would be off the table anyway, freeing up some time.

I did forget to mention in my original post though, that he's in Disney's Jungle Cruise as well, which is a very big deal. In the end, I think Rampage 2 coming out is largely dependent on how he personally feels, as its success (while solid), was not spectacular and the general media doesn't seem too interested in covering it. Less heat = Less chance of a sequel in this case, imo (sadly).

Do we have some precedent for big disaster movies sequels

they were often one and done in the past:

Even the big success like 2012, Armageddon, Perfect Storm or The Day After Tomorrow, concept do not naturally lead to sequel very well.

Independance Day finally got one.

Uncharted would be like the easiest fucking movie to make if they based it largely on ideas and plot points from the first two games. But writers and producers are like "We gotta tell our own story."

This. I really don't get it. Why is Naughty Dog concerned about this when other books, properties, etc have been straight adaptations with little changes? I mean yes, I agree that they told the story effectively but I disagree that an adaptation couldn't add more if in the right hands and with the right budget (and that's key).

It should be so easy to do but as far as a film, it doesn't have to be a scene for scene remake. There could still be changes without losing what made those games so special. The set pieces could be different (or new ones added on) and it would just be entertaining seeing these characters on screen with the right casting choices (Kristen Bell would be perfect as Ellie). 50% of the fun in Uncharted already comes from the characters and their interactions with each other. They were built for film since it is a cinematic experience.

It just seems like an extremely dumb decision to me to not adapt those stories to film (the 3rd is basically a script from beginning to end) for non gamers.

But they have managed to screw up three Tomb Raiders....maybe one day they'll get it right.

Independence Day is really an alien invasion movie, not a disaster flick. So that doesn't entirely count.

I feel like the window to make a San Andreas sequel has already passed. I mean when's the earliest it could possibly be made and come out?

Looks like WB realized Rampage wont make 100M.

Unlike Disney who is STILL pushing Black Panther to get 700M. Gee really. (Then again they did cheat to get Wrinkle over 100M though I believe...)

Weird. So was it pulled from all theaters or not? WB didn't release actuals for Rampage this weekend, but it's also unlike them to leave it so close to $100 million.

It still sold 2 ticket on fandago today:

2018-07-30 11:00:00 2 Rampage (2018)

I imagine movies run in dollar theater and other ways for a long time after their tracking is over, but with marginal sales.

these things would be solved if studios held off on the home video releases until the movies were no longer making over 100,000  or more per weekend

Now with streaming contract it could make it hard, say with itunes sales and other of the sort, to they have a pre-agreed windows that is base on days after theatrical release and not in days after the movie is not in theater anymore ?
