GiantCALBears
If we use the inflation card, Gone With The WInd will NEVER be beaten. Inflation arguments are always crap. The only fair comparisons are movies that are released a few years from each other. So compare 90s movies to 90s movies. 2010 movies to 2010 movies. It's a matter of perspective honestly, the point is JW really isn't close to Titanic when evaluating the performance of both movies.
a2k
So, how much was TDKR affected by the shootings? Did Heath's death inflate TDK's ow? Was MoS good, bad or mixed? Edited July 9, 2015 by a2k
GiantCALBears
GWTW was also released like 25 times wasn't it? That's always the extreme example of price inflation, yes using it is very out of context in many cases.

BK007
Sigh... the end of the good times. Wake me up when IO hits 300 in a week or so. Your diatribe is getting really old. Yeah you don't like Minions, got it the first time.

Gopher
Keep in mind the country was a fraction of its current population when GWTW was released. Also keep in mind that constant moviegoing was infused with American culture, which kinda stopped in the 50s for a variety of reasons (particularly other forms of entertainment like TV) and we've never been able to come back to. On that note... IO 5 JW 3.65 Mike 2.7 TS 2.65 Ted 2 1.75 Edited July 9, 2015 by Gopher
superduperm
Apparently previews for Minions start at 6 PM tomorrow. Did DM2 start at 7? If so, it will be hard to nail down what a good preview number would be and what the OD and OW should be based upon it. I'm assuming it should hit at least $5M though if it wants the animated OW record though...

Ozymandias
Adjusting for inflation does matter to explain the craziness of some of these runs, Titanic adjusted to this years prices didn't have a day below $1m until 123 days in. Think about that when you compare JW to it by the end of the run, they aren't that comparable (time of year of release too) other than the domestic unadjusted total. Yes, and Avatar is small potatoes compared to it too. Titanic was a once in a life boxoffice run, everyone knows that. JW is comparable to Avengers/Avatar domestically though. Jurassic World, Avengers, and Avatar... the highest grossing movies of all time. /wrists Please save us Star Wars. Especially since Whedon trolled JW's "sexism". Even Avatar was responsible for setting the stage for other 3D movies so will leave it above these 2. But if we compare the legs Avatar is comparable to Titanic, not JW or TA1 type of OW record-breaking movies. Avatar to this era is Titanic to the 90's. GiantCALBears
Titanic was also in theaters for 10 months. What movies are in theaters that long nowadays? Demand was there clearly, Avatar was in theaters 9 months so pretty close despite being 12 years later. Even TDK was in for almost 9 months.
