Imagemovers Digital (which made those animated mo cap movies) shut down. Imagemovers still exists. They produced The Walk in conjunction with Sony.

The Walk is a complete bomb.

Not yet. It very well may be, but definitely not yet. The purpose of the IMAX release is to spread word of mouth and while the total number so far is of course disappointing, it did increase 80% from Friday to Saturday. This was made for $35m, so as long as it opens decently when it goes wide - which is still a very realistic possibility - this has a chance do well. There is even a chance it can still do really well so the story on this is still being written.

The Walk in IMAX the same weekend as The Martian's opening is probably the worst scheduling decision this year. One spectacle is a way way better sell than the other. I'm sure Martian could've made five times in IMAX what The Walk did.

Nancy Meyer's The Intern had a fantastic hold and it seems to be going on a straight path towards a 100-million-dollar-plus gross.

However, could someone tell me why her last three movies each cost 80+ million dollars????

 

I know they tend to be star-studded...but, damn...looking at her Mojo page, seems like the only two stars of her ouvre who were considered, at the time of making their respective Nancy Mayer films, box office draws, were Mel Gibson (What Women Want had Gibson hot off his white-hot Lethal Weapon 4/Payback/Chicken Run/The Patriot streak)  and Meryl Streep (her It's Complicated was sandwhiched between her Mamma Mia!-Doubt-Julie & Julia triple whammy and her third Oscar win for The Iron Lady).

But even with that...did Streep and Gibson each get a 40-million-dollar paycheck??? I doubt it. Why are these rom-coms so expensive???
