School ends on Wednesday so it has sense. And Friday is holiday in some regions. It can make big numbers on Wed, Thu and Friday and not so big on both Sat and Sunday. Anyway, I expect big numbers here.
Renaud originel
@Olive Sorry for my bad english, I'm french... Absolutely. But you must know tweets from Rentrak only concern Paris and suburbs ! Yesterday there was two shows in the afternoon and the movie became number one with only 15 000 admissions. It's a very bad week in France, but it's a good preview ! Now it's very hard to define the final BO for the movie. In 2003 it was a huge score. I think it will be a big success but not in the proportion of the first one. Edited June 20, 2016 by Renaud originel

newbie BO buff
Is it possible for Dory to NOT hit 1 billion worldwide? I already saw it with my family. Kids (8 and 6) loved it. I fell asleep a few times, was the end of a long day. Stellar supporting cast, I'd say.

Many countries are releasing where Nemo was big (in some cases, very big). But I would say it has very good chances looking at the US opening. Just DOM can make a 450 million (45% of a billion, so it would need a 55% OS to reach it). Among Pixar films, just Toy Story 1 and 2, Monsters Inc. and Cars did less than a 55% OS. The most recent film fo that list was released 10 years ago, when OS figures were not so big as now. Finding Nemo already reached a 61%. The last Pixar sequel (MU) did a 63%. Said this, Japan should be very important, since Nemo reached $102m there.

bladels
Pixar is very unpopular in a lot of Asian countries, I'm like the only Pixar fan among my friends. They prefer something more lighthearted and fun. The adventurous factor of Pixar's movies doesn't seem to work really well for us. It's really bother me that Minions is the highest grossing animated film in my country. Dory is lucky if she makes half of Minions' money.

Planodisney
There is zero chance Dory doesn't make 1 billion worldwide. With its domestic first Monday number at almost 20 million, 450 million is the floor. No way it doesn't hit 550 million OS. China is maybe the ONLY country that Zootopia will outgross Dory and Fory will make up most of that deficit just from domestic, France, Germany and UK. Everywhere else it will outgross Zootopia. 1.1 billion is very possible to likely.

And I think the same will happen in some other Asian markets.

That will be easily offset thanks to Latin America, Zootopia wasn't big there while Finding Dory had an amazing start in its first markets there.
