I don't think 7 or 8 really changes much. People would've gone at 8pm just as likely as they'd go at 7. Same with the following showtimes.

7pm adds 2 additional showtimes (more in a multiplex) which can attract walk-in audiences. Across the 4000 theaters, that can be an additional 5000-6000 showtimes which can definitely add up.

2 hours to 2 hour 20 minutes long movies benefit the most. The showtimes for a given screen can be 7pm, 9:30pm, midnight as opposed to the 8pm starts where you can only program 2 shows per screen because of the last show starting at 1am which attracts a smaller audience.

This would be shocking if Pt1 had behaved like CF. At least it's not worse than this - however, maybe the legs will be decent like P1.

Next weekend's competition is stiffer than P1 had, but after that it is pretty clear till Star Wars . Creed and TGD will both probably open pretty well and better than Penguins for sure. Victor Frankenstein will probably match Horrible Bosses 2.

with all the news that the preview news being lower, this is kind of an expected meh to disappointing number.  In the grand scheme of things, it's still good and it will make a lot of money, but yeah in comparison to just its own franchise and being the finale, it's kind of underwhelming.  But the final numbers will show if it stays underwhelming or not..obvously :P

It's a disappointing number compared to what has come before it, but it is still an enormously successful franchise that was actually pretty darn good. Crazy how this series has defied expectations with each film. Hope to check it out this weekend, but may have to delay it until after Thanksgiving.

Did people call THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN II's box office performance disappointing?

I don't get the  comparison.

BDII was the highest grossing film in the series WW and it came within 8 million of Eclipse.  THG peaked two films ago.

Why would they? BD2 landed exactly were everyone expected it would and remained consistent with the previous three films.

I would call MJ2's number disappointing if OW falls short of MJ1, because finale factor and IMAX should have remedied that.
