247M. Nothing will beat this for a very long long time...

I said the same thing in 2007 when Spider-Man 3 made a mind boggling 151m. Then BAM! TDK came out out and topped it by 8m the following year. So it could happen. That's what makes the box office so much fun to follow haha

Those figures for SW7 for the period after Xmas seem to be optimistic, as by then a large percentage of the viewing public, who would of wanted to see the film, would of done so by then. I realize there will be many repeat viewings, but at the same time, there are some other big films being released at Xmas as well.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens, and who knows SW7 could do something at the box office, that none of us have seen before.

Those numbers aren't happening because there is just no way a movie opening this big can follow Avatar type patterns.  However, there really isn't anything big opening on Christmas this year.  I don't think any of those movies will slow down the Star Wars train at all.

So this is the full potential of a superb 21st century Star Wars. This record will remain for a long, long time.

Given holiday shopping, the full OW potential was probably even higher if it opened say a week earlier or in the Summer.  Legs will be great though.

You know i wasn't blown away by the film but it feels freaking good to have Star Wars back where it belongs at the top, and for perhaps the more younger people out there to finally realize why many people think of movies then think of Star Wars.

The prequels grosses, although pretty big, made some people question why Star Wars is held up so high yet the prequels hardly had grosses to match that (except maybe TPM)

How big do people think Christmas Day could go.

We know that Christmas Day was the third largest selling presale day behind Thur and Fri as of last week, so there is already alot of money in - could they shatter the record and get close to $50M?

I am only ~ more or less sure of one thing:

someone will again get confused by them adding presales to matinee numbers instead to split those up to the matinee and later on numbers = wrong estimates

So, #96 all-time domestic, just below Raiders of the Lost Ark and just above Toy Story 2. Knocks Ghostbusters out of the top 100. Question, this has to be the first film to enter the top 100 all time after 1 weekend, correct?

Interesting question

as much as i and being the MCU fan i am would cry foul

Avengers infinity war part 2 has a CHANCE key word CHANCE to do it but the odds would be approximately 247 million to 1 but it could happen

The 'Finale Factor' is exaggerated. For every Potter there's a Twilight or Hunger Games which disproves it.

WOW, amazing weekend. After destroying the OD record, it destroyed the OW record. It has the Sunday record and it will get monday record (maybe even Tuesday but that's difficult). This film is going to hold great for such a big film (not avatar but i wouldn't be surprised by and 3,75 x OW.

so i'm thinking a 50% drop for monday, based on avatar, rotk, and the hobbit. this basically opened on a thursday so that should soften it a bit. a better multi than my original predictions because of how consistent thurs-sun were

Checking some of the past record holders, Avengers landed at #111, both TDK and SP3 were at #149, and the first Spider-Man was at #177 after OW.
