I've seen all of the Best Picture nominees except Room. That should be rectified by the end of this weekend (it finally opens here tomorrow).

I'm super happy that Dan Hertzfeldt got a nomination for Animated Short! He makes some great work!

I'm not too upset at the Ridley snub, it was more that I wanted him to win an overdue one. I don't even think it's the best directed movie this year. Time for me to stan for Alien Covenant

Abrahamson for Best Director for Room is a pretty huge surprise for me! Nobody was predicting him to get a best director nod. Even if one of the five from the DGA were getting "knocked out" so to speak, nobody saw this - predictions were Spielberg or Todd Haynes to sneak in.

TBATB disappointment aside, I think it's a good set of BP noms. I've seen them all except Brooklyn and the only ones I was 'eh' on were Room and The Revenant. Would've liked to have seen Inside Out or Star Wars up there but I think we all knew they were long shots.

Yeah I was totally thinking McCarthy could get snubbed, but Abrahamson would have been like 5th on the list to replace him

Spotlight and Revenant did the best here. both feel like they maxed their nomination potential. Mad max too but that's not really in the running for the win.

Lack of Creed, Inside Out, Straight Outta Compton or Star Wars in BP sucks, but Tarantino not getting a screenplay nomination for Hateful Eight is beyond me, that was borderline flawless writing! And I'll join Rukaio in bemoaning the lack of The Boy and the Beast in animated feature.

jlaw was great in joy. i think some think it's just a lazy filler nod because of the reviews of that picture but it's her best nominated performance.

That's a weak Best Actor field. DiCaprio's got this one in the bag.
