So I ended up seeing Huntsman tonight because my shift ended just before the last show began. And for every good thing about it, there was a not-so-good thing there to cancel it out.

Good: - effects (I even found my uncle's name in the credits)

- Hemsworth (the dude is pretty charismatic here despite the accent and brings quite a bit of charm)

- the world (not nearly as fleshed out as you would want, but there is potential for some great fantasy stuff there)

- Theron (obviously)

- some of the humour... worked!

- Blunt's character, especially during the finale is overall quite well realized especially for a film so otherwise weak on characterization

Bad: - pacing. After the first act which was quite entertaining, the film dragged horribly until the finale

- the accents. Poor Chastain and Hemsworth

- the action was soooo uninspired. Sure, it may have been backed up by pretty effects, but I didn't feel involved, more like I was watching something unfold on a screen

- I found blunt's performance to be quite good towards the end, she really showed off her character's internal struggle which helped gain my interest. However I wish she had been multi-dimensional throughout the rest of the movie

So overall it was... not worth recommending, especially if you haven't seen Jungle Book. But I could see some fantasy junkies enjoying it, as well as some casual viewers as well. It isn't terrible, and there certainly are redeeming qualities. It's not like I was expecting much anyways :P

So a $16.4m Friday so just under $60m if it follows Oz TGaP, though with a 190% rather than a 120% Friday bump, my guess would be $62-$65m for the weekend.

zoo did over 4x Fri its second weekend. This should play more like zoo than cindy or oz

Dunno, lol.

But still, it's remarkable that it might exceed everyone's expectations this weekend.

I checked the leaderboard real quick based on my projections.

you, me, @TalismanRing, and @Tower are in a dead heat

for second:bagoverhead:

@Matrix4You out in front by 3 lengths

the daily numbers are rough estimates. there can be a lot of shifting. we pass matrix but I pass you if the 3 below drop 10%

I lowered MBFGW, GND, and  MFH last second. had them dead on, not enough faith in the dailies

The Huntsman can still go up to $22-23 million if it plays well with the Saturday/Sunday family crowd but it is probably a money loser at this point.

Looks like it. But the budget is much smaller this time around. Maybe OS will save the day once again so it breaks even down the road
