The difference between 1b and 1.3b is $300m :P

Sure, even with the probable good legs (x3 multiplier), it will still need to make big numbers in Japan to reach DH2. But even if it fails and it "only" makes over 1.2b, with 2011 ER we would be talking about over 1.4b and making just $100m in China. It is a monster.

Undoubtedly its a monster.

What I meant it that going from 1b to 1.3b is far more difficult than going from 500m to 800m. In thr first case a bignproportion of the demand foe a movie has burnt out.

You will see a number of 1b grossers every year but most of them stop behind 1.1b let alone 1.2,b

Sure. Among the recent +1.3b, all of them have needed to make enormous figures in 1 or more OS country to reach it (beyond a stellar DOM performance). Both JW and Ultron did well over $200m in China. F7 did nearly $400m. We already know what Frozen did in Japan. And Star Wars had 3 (nearly 4) OS markets over $100m. The real hope for BatB is Japan. And the style of the film really fits with their tastes. I am not saying it will make $200m, but it could surprise.

This is so true. Apparently, crossing 1.2b is quite difficult and quite a few movies pegged to do it (CW, RO, some Transformers) couldn't.

Transformers didn't do so with much better XR  (Of course it had much less from NA, too, but BatB should do more OS excluding China...

Let's see:

DH2:

$124m in Japan

$117m in UK

$78m in Germany

$67m in France

BatB has just opened in Germany, but it's very lower than DH2's German opening.

It also depends the box office performance in Japan, so yeah it's too early to tell.

For those specific countries, might be easier to just dig up local currency gross and use that as a comparison.

But here's a table with the original, exchange-rate adjusted, and ticket price (incl. exchange rate) adjusted OS grosses for DH2 on a regional and country-by-country basis. Exchange rate adjustment is current as of March 22. Regional ticket-price adjusted grosses are estimated due to missing data for some countries.

“Beauty and the Beast” opened in Australia with $1.6 million on Thursday for the second highest March opening day of all-time behind only “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.” It had already grossed $1.3 million in previews. In Argentina, the film opened to $600,000, the highest opening day of 2017.

Thursday’s international take was $17.8 million, pushing the overseas total to $262 million. China is the leader with $60.3 million, followed by the U.K. with $34.2 million and Mexico with $18.4 million.

Deadline:

The UK continued to swoon for BATB with $2M on Thursday for $34.2M to date. Mexico now has a cume of $18.4M ($800K Thurs), followed by Brazil with $16.8M ($900M Thurs) and Korea at $15.3M ($700K Thurs) to round out the Top 5.

Those UK weekdays are so huge... :insane:

So it looks like it's going to be a three way battle between China, The UK and Japan for the biggest OS market (all are currently predicted or projected to make about $90m). Should be interesting.

At this rate China should be a bit higher than UK.Japan is tbe most intriguing aspect...

Will France be included as well? I say this because the story is set in France and there might be chance that France will follow the battle between those 3 countries..

The movie is obviously going to be huge in France, but relatively speaking, it won't match the heights of BatB in those 3 markets. $40m-$50m is what most would expect as a good/great gross for BatB in France.

Surprisingly, France was not specially big for the animated film. If I remember well it sold something like 4.5 million admissions. Respectable figure but nothing impressive (it sold more admissions in Spain, for example)
