Not sure if this is comforting after initial mixed review but there is already some small advanced screening in Taiwan and WOM among general audience is fantastic. Most of praise agree that it is a heart-warming uplifting feel good adventure flick. 

 

The early positive reaction from GA probably means it is a similar situation like Elemental and HG: BOSS, that a studio thought they have something great in their hand and lifting the embargo earlier, only to find out critics aren't crazy about them , but somehow GA disagree with critics after all and allowing the movie to leg out greatly.

So far the consensus is "it's fine?" Though clearly not going to be without its detractors (Hollywood Reporter straight-up panned it).

Some of even the positive reviews saying Timmy feels miscast leads me to believe that this was probably originally conceived with Tom Holland (the only other actor who was in the running for this and no stranger to musicals given his background) in mind more.

Timmy seems like a miscast but Holland seems like even more of a miscast. Gene Wilder was a demented hot weirdo, Holland and Timothee both have big theater kid energy. It needed to be like ten years younger Ryan Gosling or something.
