Water is either the biggest troll when it comes to FB or he's just unable to grasp basic math.

Babe, sit your ass down and accept defeat. FB is going to crush MJ2 worldwide (and all the films overseas). I know you're salty...but it's ok...*pets head*

warren beatty is quite the egoist so finding out no one gives a shit about him any more must be a real hit. seriously one of the most forgotten a-listers of his era. NO ONE from my generation gives a shit about Warren Beatty. Newman, Nicholson, Redford etc y'know still get some love at least.

This collection of interviews where people talk about working with Beatty is amazing

This is just weird. They have it with a 24.6% Sun increase.  That has to be a typo

Yeah figured it out, that's the 5-day estimate for Almost Christmas that got represented as a 3-day estimate. Should be reflected tomorrow

Why would it suddenly start acting like Potter movie?

That doesn't prove your point. Most of those films were from a different era where films were not as frontloaded.

out of BOMs WE article

Quote

Moana:

Moana's demographic breakdown was 45% male vs. 55% female with 34% of the audience coming in 12 years or under, 43% over the age of 25 and 72% of the audience made up of families. Opening day audiences gave the film an "A" CinemaScore.

FB:

The three-day opening in China surpasses the lifetime grosses of all other films in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World franchise in that territory outside of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($60.8m).

Quote

Internationally, Allied opened in 23 markets and brought in an estimated $9.3 million, which includes $2.8 million in France, $1.6 million in the U.K. and $1.3 million in Spain. Fortunately, it still has openings in China (Nov 30), Russia (Dec 1), Germany (Dec 22) and Australia (Dec 26) still in the future to help pad the worldwide gross

This and more is here to find

Rank them by release date and you will find A LOT very recent of examples. And FB showed no sign of being frontloaded so far, so...

The other point about the discussion of FB is that it opened to (just under) 75m.  There was a danger, however small, of it acting like a sequel to a very long running franchise with massive frontloading followed by tepid legs due to lack of interest from the general public. That it seems, I repeat SEEMS, to be finding an audience outside of the die-hard fans is worthy of discussion.

It also points to a larger opening for FB2, which also makes it worthy of discussion on a box office watch site. ;)

Of course, it could still nosedive from this point out (nothing is written in stone and all that), so, yes, some of the discussion is a little premature.  But, hey, rebounding numbers are ALWAYS going to get a little bit of discussion round these parts.  Especially if it is tied to a fan favorite franchise.

Watched the trailer for Incarnate. Looks like Inception crossed with The Exorcist. At least it chose a good release date where no one will notice it bomb.

You missed all the TV spots during Survivor Series, RAW and Smackdown?

Yep, THG movies have always been domestic phenomenon but foreign markets preferred Twilight and especially Potter. FB should be no exception.

@Porthos FB is more accessible to GA because there's no book (well, original FB isn't exactly a story) and it stands alone from Harry Potter. One doesn't have to see HP movies or read books to understand what's going on, and we know that movies based on books tend to be incomprehensible to non-readers if they leave out some important stuff. FB has none of those problems.

@FantasticBeasts

You can take a look at the post Thanksgiving weekends at BOM:

2 charts: the worst and the best drops

I pre-sorted the links for highest total to have the smaller releases not on top, but you can change back to 'best/worst' with clicking on the correspondingly tab (in this case 'Rank') on the top of the charts.

clicking twice changes descending to the opposite...

worst

best

Have fun!

Thank you very much!

what? basic math says that across its first 10 days fb has had an average of 9% better holds, and a 10% better second weekend hold. that's neither a big difference nor a surprise considering the older audience fb has

and defeat in what way? fb having a lower rt score than all hp and 2/4 thg movies, doing less ww than all hp and 2or3/4 thg movies, doing less dom than all hp and all thg movies? the only thing that's salty is my tears from how good moana was
