Without a Best Picture nomination or any other major recognition besides a nom for Portman I don't see it going much further than Carol and The Danish Girl (which finished slightly over $10M).

It's on par with Brooklyn right now, a good performance in limited so far.  Don't write it off yet.

BTW Manchester by the Sea is really slaying in its expansion. Bodes really well for when it goes "wide" next weekend and throughout the holidays before the awards shows come around, especially since it's the only movie out really targeting older (40+) viewers other than Fences (which will definitely skew older).

It's a good thing you said "domestic", because Cameron will

come knocking December 2018 and the world will answer.

Top Franchise for 1st world nations = Star Wars

Top Franchise for 3rd/2nd world nations = Avatar

It's hard to make the statement when there's only been one Avatar film.  Don't want to get too far into the debate, but we won't know how the sequel performs until it's out.

Huh? The trailers were funny, almost as funny as Zootopia. It had smash hit written all over it.

... and who said that anybody doubted it would be a smash hit? I'm saying who the fuck saw it doing AS MUCH as it did, actually beating Despicable Me 2, coming? Smash hit applies to anything in context. 300M alone would count as smash hit for Pets, nevermind the 368M it did.

Star Wars isn't the biggest franchise in most 1st world countries.

It absolutely dominates in the United States, though.

@Christmas Baumer put in 370m in the summer game. Credit where it's due.
