I really want to see RO although haven't seen the OT.. That phrase..."Rebellions are build on hope" just can't get out of my head. It may be that the trailer played every half an hour on TV here...Seems like a good movie...I like the fact that it looks darker/more mature than other SW FILMS...I will surely check this out on holidays :P

I already told you, just think of it as a sequel to ROTS. :P

You should see Rogue One in a theater and immediately rent Episode IV when you get home.

Some time in the last year they became damn near universal.  I'm sure there are still some isolated holdouts, but for the most part market forces ground the resistance into dust.

just where are all these discount tuesdays?  never  been anywhere thats had one nor met anyone other than these boards who knows anything about them?

I really regret seeing the PT first. It was enjoyable but not more than that. If I had watched the OT first I would have probably been a huge fan now. I love sci-fi films so I am sure that I would have liked it a lot...

I think I missed some discussions, but if you speak about discount Tuesday -  a lot of the members here tell about it. Maybe asking in the conversation thread or... for co-members out of your area, they might be able to point out to you where to go?

Well you can't miss it here. Literally every theater participates and there are 2.5 million people in the Portland metro area. Theater chains are Regal, Century (Cinemark), and Cinetopia.

At least you can say Lucas didn't ruin your childhood. The same can't be said for the old school OT fans. But seriously...Rogue One is a wonderful prequel to A New Hope. Watch them together when you get a chance.

I checked our DVDs, part IV is unwatchable (hmmm I have to find out who had it lent the last time - grrrr) and ordered SW anew. But as Blu-Ray. But... as the Blu-Ray's price jumped up - grrrrr - strangely very high, so short before X-Mas and matching to the SW R1 release, the sole part IV costs 'only' the half of the SW 1-6 special Blu-Ray edition with three additional 3 Blu-Rays full of extras and so on.

Took a look at the other discs, didn't look that great either (I really do not understand that, the films I am watching alone look like new, even the very old ones) - I ordered the big set. Will arrive theoretically tomorrow, a few hours before I finally get to see SW R1

I guess I know what I'll do Thursday....

On reddit:

So is this when the sub [read: box office subreddit] going to come to terms with the fact that this film isn't going to be as leggy as TFA?

I think they might be in for a surprise.

It might not reach TFA multiplier... but I think it's gonna be a lot closer than they think. Certainly not below 3.

Then again, it could even have better legs than TFA for all we know since it opened lower.

That would require the movie to be an event though :qotd:

These guys on r/boxoffice may as well be movieman and co. with their logic

I think New York is one of the last holdouts against Discount Tuesdays.  Here in Sacramento, Regal wasn't participating in them until sometime this year, but when when Cinemark followed the suit of Cinema West, they soon had to do so as well.

That's what I meant about 'market forces'.  As soon as one place in an area goes to Discount Tuesdays and the other theaters in the area start to suffer lost business, the rest sooner or later fall in line.

It also helps that it does seem to be profitiable for them.  I can't really say if it's added to box office gross overall or if it has just shuffled the M-Th pattern a bit, but it does appear to be here to stay.

====

One other note, every single theater here in town makes an exception on Discount Tuesdays for films that are opening that day or are having their Preview Night. Gotta pay full price for those.  No fools they. ;)  IIRC, some places tried to exempt a movie in its first week from Discount Tuesdays, but that didn't stick for long.  Can't imagine why. :P

So I went to see my ENT specialist this morning, and apparently my ears suck for my age, so I have to wear special earplugs for all loud events now, like Shows...

and Cinema :sadben:

I told her I went to the cinema last week and she said Cinema can cause permanent ear damage to sensitive ears, so no more unprotected cinema :sadben:

10 years of drumming does that to your ears.

BUT the doctor said I could test my new earplugs to see if they are a correct fit, and that I could go at the exact same cinema to test them if I want  Apparently it's safe with them on, as long as I wear them properly.

Oh well, guess who's going to watch Rogue One again since it's the only movie at his local Imax for the next 2 weeks? :redcapes:
