The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

So from the comments that FFH may be a more walkup-friendly movie than CM due to the summer release date and nature of the film I thought it may be a good idea to compare its cumulative sales to Ant-man and the Wasp. Now AMATW started its presales much later than FFH, so to be fair I counted its sales all the way through June 30th, which was one week before its release. It sold 16528 total in that time on Pulse. FFH on the other hand has 32941 already, and I assume the number shall increase as we get closer to release date. So if we use that comp instead of CM, FFH looks like it's doing pretty good business.

These numbers are just ridiculously bad. I know Dark Phoenix is gonna be a lot more presale heavy than MIB but this is still just terrible.

At 10 AM last Tuesday Dark Phoenix's breakdown was Thursday: 6210, Friday: 4492, Saturday: 3719, Sunday: 1590

Currently MIB is at Thursday: 1543, Friday: 1278, Saturday: 1127, Sunday: 724

A straight comp gives MIB a weekend of 1.25-2.5-3.25-3.7 or 10.7 million weekend. Assuming that Phoenix was twice as presale heavy as MIB gives a 21.4 million weekend.

21.4M domestic opening is quite poor for a 110M budget pic.

Sub 30m OW for MIB has to be confirmed at this point.

Shaft’s numbers on the report are... 😬

Hopefully it’s “walkup heavy.”

It only cost $15m for WB since half of it was paid for by Netflix. MiB's numbers though... yikes!

Not suprised at the MiB figures at all, I don't understand why Sony thought it was a good idea to revamp this IP.

Shaft and MIBI don’t seem to be on the fandango day-by-day breakdowns anymore, but I think I’m going to stop including those anyway since they get recorded consistently elsewhere.
