But that 37.2m doesn't make sense either for us to take it even for grain of salt. Unless DS didn't get any showing in the last mid-week, or else the number should be anything higher than 37.2m

Yeah, I realized I was mixing up which weekdays were being discussed here. It was last week's that were excluded from the Sunday cume, not this week's. Table has been corrected -- nice catch, all! @charlie Jatinder @WandaLegion

I saw from cS numbers but then Gitesh tweeted so I thought it was officially reported too. Also $40M was reported on Tuesday by Funimation.

Do you have a link to this?

Thanks. Interesting, they have not actually reported anything via email since last weekend. Like I said, it's been a headache.

Yeah the official reporting has been sketchy, I happened to see that article with the 40M announcement on Reddit and then it was also posted on WoKJ a little later.

In their defense, I suppose, they're a small studio probably not equipped to track this stuff so precisely day-to-day... although being under Sony's wing, one would think that's not nearly as much of an issue. Forgetting to add the unofficial projected May 2-May 6 dailies on this week's chart was my bad though. 😆

Yeah, the last time Funimation had a movie with appreciable 3rd week dailies to report was... never? So I understand why it wouldn’t exactly be an institutional strength for them.

Spiral has been gradually gaining nighttime sales over the past couple hours. I imagine IMAX will start filling up once the standard shows are mostly full.

Bad for Those Who Wish Me Dead. Every seat for the 4PM showing is a lone purchase; that probably doesn't bode well for nighttime walkups. Profile is shockingly late night skewing?

Demon Slayer is continuing to hold better than expected. New audiences have definitely been checking out the anime with the film's hype.

Wrath of Man might have a pretty iffy drop. Even though it's walkup friendly, I don't see business picking up significantly.
Top Gun's Dolby rerelease confuses me. Did Paramount not have bargaining power for August?

Last remaining theater from pre-pandemic finally put showtimes up, and I added another Regal theater. We'll see how good that GvK comp is considering some theaters had showtimes in the early afternoon. Also, it seems previews are now starting at 5PM

I know the seat count addition seems pretty extreme, but I updated all the seat counts because a lot of theaters I only put at 40% capacity. There was an allowance of 50% capacity here in PA starting Monday IIRC, so I'm just updating accordingly.

Anyways, pretty meh day today. This will be a bit of a pattern, let me tell you

Some people will probably start to proclaim doom and gloom, and I'll admit this is a soft start, especially considering the promo and reaction blitz just hit today. However, it's still a bit early IMO to really say anything definitive, so I guess we'll just see what happens

Is it possible the covid situation got people to postpone their ticket booking due to concern of the theater may be closed or movie could be postponed?

At least that is the case in my country where online booking during pandemic era have been backloaded,

Showtimes expanded greatly today, thanks to previews being shifted to 5pm (rose from 38 showings to 63 showings).  That plus a few of the showings added yesterday starting to get seats sold resulted in a nice bounce in total sales today for AQP II.

Also, PWPs started being available from the 5pm to 7pm window. I'm not 100% sure if any of them were already sold, so might need to view the number of PWPs with a bit more caution than we did with GvK and MK.  Added to that is that Cruella tickets are going on sale any day now and I'll be pretty surprised if PWPs won't be available for that as well.

Might just have to make a note that x number of PWPs have been sold, but without a ticket adjustment due to a rival big opener (and a relatively late shift in PWP availability).

Don't know if I'll do a fill blown track for Cruella as I'm not entierly sure it's worth it.  Did compile the numbers, and it's:

67/1517 tickets sold [67 tickets sold today] 4.42% sold

Which would be 8.32% of GvK at T-13, or 0.8m.

Yeah.

Now this is one day of sales versus around four days or so of GvK (it started in fits and starts locally thanks to 'rona restrictions being lifted), so not very fair to compare.  Then again, the one day sale total ain't exactly much better:

Day One Comp [Gvk and Cruella]

34.18% of GvK's first day sales = 3.28m

That's probably closer to the "truth", but frankly it ain't that much better.

Anywho, I'll probably keep an eye on it locally, but if it doesn't show any sign of breaking out, then I'll probably just punt on it.

It will be very saddening if AQP2 failed to beat GvK's opening. It is a full theatrical release with higher capacity allowance and theater count  , combined with the fact that AQP1 made more money than KOTM and 2 months worth of progress in term of vaccination and reduction in outbreak.

If all those improvement don't warrant a at least 40m 3 days opening (Ideally 50m), I don't know what else need to be done.
