The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Got Dolby tickets for opening night at Disney Springs. So far sales aren't crazy by DS' standards. At the theater I track, it's only sold 5 seats so far; I'm pretty sure Widow finished its first day of sales O/U 50 tickets but will check again later.

FYI I don't see anything unusual about the show count at MTC2. It has 2035 Thursday showings and 4268 Friday showings. BW started off with around 2600 and 4700 respectively. Since this will probably open a bit below BW it makes sense.

how its doing so far ?

Ok.

Shang Chi Previews

MTC1 - 6916/311057 122527.06 1514 shows ( 100 minutes of data)

MTC2(DBOX adjusted) - 3584/309430 2002 shows ~73K (70 minutes of data)

I would say good start. Obviously not in BW which after initial PS(1 day or so)  was at

Black Widow (T-26)

MTC1 - 30950/371916 461263.00 1870 shows 404 Theatres

MTC2 - 22052/394294 294004.53 2553 shows. 304 Theatres

BW MTC 2 was 17K per @Menor I think. I have set 11-12K target for Shang Chi in MTC 2 and 18K in MTC 1. Let's see.

Edit: Looking back, MTC 2 next day noon was 19.2K per Menor, I took 17K for first day. For MTC 1, I had taken $420K.

Reminiscence counted today at 10am EST for Friday, August 20:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 52 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
6 (3 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 0 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
4 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
1 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 30 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
26 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 119.
Not that bad. I have to find better comps but for the moment (both counted on Monday for Friday): Stillwater (5.2M OW) had 17 sold tickets in 6 theaters (so here vs 67) and THWB (11.4M OW) had 125 in 7.
IMO the trailer is pretty good, probably better than the movie.

Paw Patrol: The Movie counted today at 10am EST for Friday, August 20:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes yet
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 39 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 15 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
23 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
6 (1 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 13 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
44 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 140.

Comps: Dolittle (21.8M OW) had in the same 6 theaters on Monday for Friday 143 sold tickets and
The Boss Baby 2
(16.0M OW) had also in the same 6 theaters 58 sold tickets.
Looks good so far.

The Night House had today 24 sold tickets in 5 theaters for Friday, August 20. Not really convincing but it's very early. E.g. The Forever Purge had on Monday for Thursday 104 sold tickets in 7 theaters and Old for Friday 150, also in 7 theaters.
And finally, The Protege had today 32 sold tickets in 6 theaters for Friday.

Quick update, Shangi Chai is doing very well but skewed heavily at MTC1(15K vs 5423 at MTC2). Still I think this confirms its going to open above 50m barring PS stalling. Let us see in a week's time where things are.

Great, i´m expecting around 8m previews around low to mid 50M OW [+60M 4-days]

So far this numbers are very promising, and there´s still reactions coming in a few hours and could help presales to get boosted

Overrated reactions like any other Marvel movie?

yes, and? people still get excited about it, especially because overreacted or not everyone know that MCU reactions translate into good reviews and, usually, good movies.
