I doubt that will happen. California will not be able to ramp up vaccination that fast. There are huge logistical issues vaccinating 30 million+ people. Case count have dropped but a spring break could cause that to jump up. Look at NY, they were doing great and now they are hitting big numbers again. Plus even if county relaxes restrictions(I think the california counties will be the most conservative), theaters wont go for 100%. I think at most we will see 50% or 100/200 seats max per show. I think we will go to 100% seats only when case counts are negligible. As I said earlier last thing we want is numbers to go up and they blame indoor movie theater crowd for that.

The point of caps was already addressed later on (WandaLegion got his wires crossed a bit), but as a more general point, by definition, we can't see 100% seating in a theatre as long as there are seats blacked out for social distancing reasons.

I'm not smart enough to figure out what an average cap might be, percentage wise, due solely to social distancing, but I'd be pretty surprised if it was that much higher than 60% in a practical real-world sort of sense.

Maybe someone smarter than me can find out/know what the average number of seats sold for a movie order is.  But then we'd have to figure out the average number of seats blocked out for social distancing (it isn't always four given that folks can buy aisle seats or get seats in a social distance "island" that is already blocked off). And then remember that's just a rule-of-thumb approximation.

Either way, we ain't seeing 75% or 100% capacity until social distancing requirements are gone. And when will those recommendations/mandates be gone?  Above my pay grade to know.

It's weird. Yesterday, one sellout was removed, but now it just came back. It was a smaller auditorium though, so it could be they found new seats quickly. I dunno fam

So, this got me to check my Cinemarks (even though I was only gonna do it every few days til release week).

Cinemark 1 - now up to 14 regular seats sold (all regular) - 2 private viewings sold out (may or may not be GVK)

Cinemark 2 - now up to 8 premium seats sold, still 0 regular - 2 private viewings sold out (may or may not be GVK)

(And can I point on the 10 Commandments, on its 1st day, sold 5 seats today - yeah, old movies)

Cinemark 1, with 6 showings, has about 540 seat capacity. (I'm totally winging this, but it should be a good wag)

Cinemark 2, with 9 showings, has about 800 seat capacity. (Same)

So, in my metro, Cinemark is selling about 2% of its seats so far for GVK...so I'd be leery about the high MTC number b/c my area is not el sucko when it comes to movie releases...

Okay, it's 5 days later than my 1st post...

Cinemark 1 - now up to 47 seats sold (so almost 9% sold) - still has 3 of 9 PVPs sold (I posted that in a later update:)) - no extra capacity with regular showings or PVP yet

Cinemark 2 - now up 13 premiums seats sold and 8 regular seats sold (so about 2.5% sold) - it has 10 of 12 PVPs sold out (did I tell you my area loves these - gonna be hard to break the habit at this one)

Not sure if regular or PVP shows will be added at either theater - at Cinemark 2, I think if they add another screen of PVP, they'll sell it, but then they have to be willing to let go of a possible bigger revenue with ticket sales...then again, their sales are lagging Cinemark 1 for regular tickets, so they may just have a PVP willing audience right now...

Local TrueIMAX came online sometime in the last 36 hours (officially announced today, but looks like they were selling tickets yesterday) and the Private Watch Parties keep piling up.

Also a strong day of sales outside of the PWPs.  I think.  Find out within a few days.

Take the following tidbit for what it's worth.  The final number of seats sold I pulled for KotM (around 4pm-ish or so) for Thr Previews was 2878 tickets sold.  GvK is already at 43% of that number not counting a single PWP.  If we thumbnail, oh say 80% of the current PWPs as actually being for GvK, then GvK Wed is already at around 55% or so of KotM Thr Previews.

WARNING WARNING WARNING:  The country is still without Regal and who knows how many smaller chains.  Plus, maybe it's just over-performing in Sacto relative to KotM.   So it's a little silly to try to extrapolate a market where folks can ignore the closed down Regal and go down the street to areas of the country where folks can't.

But the ticket sales are what the ticket sales are here.  We'll see if this trend continues or not and just how much it can beat KotM's Thr Preview number locally.

How many Regals you have in your tracking region?

Seven, though it really should be considered six as two of the Regals only have five/six auditoriums in them.  There are two Regals in a nearby college town [Davis] and they are served by two separate Regal theaters of five and six auditoriums.  They were also non-reserved seating in the Before Times, so while I tracked the number of showings and sellouts at those two theaters, I never got seat level info for them.

If you only care about the ones where I had seat level info?  Five. Or a little less than a third of the region, when it came to reserved seating theaters.

Could you check the sales for Friday and Saturday? Based on the PWP data I'm a little curious.

Even though my area is on Spring Break when GvK opens, I guess parents aren't, b/c my Fri/Sat PVP at the Cinemarks are...

Cinemark 1 - 7 of 9 sold Fri / 9 of 9 sold Sat / 4 of 10 sold Sun

Cinemark 2 - 4 of 10 sold Fri (all after work) /9 of 9 sold Sat / 5 of 9 sold Sun

Now, especially Sunday, PVP might be religious or kid movie releases...but it's almost certain both my screens add a 4th full PvP screen for Sat, and maybe even a 5th if they give up a 100 seat screen for a "less desired" sales time...

I was curious myself and as of last night the Sacto region had sold approx 350 tickets (didn't count out of how many seats) on Friday with 22 watch parties (20 Cinemark, 2 Century West).

That's Good Friday though, so I'm even more leery of automatically giving all the PWPs to GvK.

That makes sense. So probably the weekend PWPs are much more divided between different films.

I saw the list of states you posted that have that holiday, and I know it included TX, so I can say for sure that it isn't really a big thing in TX (didn't even know it was a state holiday). Don't know about other states, I would imagine it should be a bigger deal in CA since Cesar Chavez was a big figure for that state.

The holiday has short history, and most of the time the holiday were fallen on weekend so I can't really see significant bump on 31Mar in these past few years. But when it was on Thursday in 2016, I did see a lot of movies having unusual bump collectively.

Thanks. With so many more seats available I think it is quite possible that Fri/Sat will be higher than Wed for this.

Yeah, Wed vs Fri/Sat seat count seems a little odd

Does it?  Still have holdovers soaking up screen times (especially in COVID with fewer movies but spaced out over more auditoriums), but they can be cleared out on the Fri turnover.  Also I presume the final schedules haven't been set for Wed so there is still room for expansion.

The one wildcard here is that Private Watch Party bugaboo, as screens that could have been expanded/set aside for expansion are possibly being gobbled up ahead of time by PWPs.

You might say, with reason, that there's not much out there in the holdover department (especially at Cinemark which is boycotting Raya). but I think it's something of a factor.
