The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

If Sony didn't want to promote Proudy Mary, they should have focused on a dvd release, perhaps "on demand" release.

A bit of an overstatement, they seem to be putting an above 20m promo on Proud Mary (already had spent 10m on tv alone with a week from release) and is looking like it will make a big opening weekend.

Deep Wang regrets to inform us that the internal presale tracker is down for maintenance and update, so we won't get any presale updates till Thursday at the very least.

Will we get a presales update today?

Thanks!  (I wasn't sure if they'd hold steady for now and wait until after Oscar nominations to continue the expansion...)

I imagine it could be tempting to go really slow to keep the movie alive until the winter Olympics (that a speculation made about that very slow release)

I had that thought, as well.   I'm really curious to see how they play this.

Final Update for this weekend, including 3-Day and 4-Day

Paddington (3-Day) 153 1737 8.81%
Paddington (4-Day) 175 2252 4.22%
Proud Mary (3-Day) 356 1437 24.77%
Proud Mary (4-Day) 372 1845 20.16%
The Commuter (3-Day) 80 1795 4.46%
The Commuter (4-Day) 84 2318 3.62%

For Paddington, its 3-Day is 215% of Ferdinand ($28.9M) and 209% of My Little Pony ($18.6M).

The only good comp I have for The Commuter is The Foreigner, which is about 222% of that film ($29.1M...yeah, it's not reaching that)

No good comps for Proud Mary unfortunately.

It's only getting three theaters in Orlando, but my area a bit north is getting it too. The TC is probably around 600 theaters given Neon's history with Ingrid Goes West

You were close!

Previews:

The Post: 36/78

The Commuter: 26/78

5:00 Paddington: 11/69 (7:45 is empty rn)

The Post is running at 50% of OE (14.4M), 90% of AM (15.1M), and 165% of The Foreigner (21.6M). Like I said earlier, tomorrow's numbers are BIGLY, so the Friday comps should work better.

The Commuter is at 35% of OE (10M), 65% of AM (10.9M), 67% of THB (14.3M), and 120% of The Foreigner (15.7M). These are encouraging numbers given how low some of us think it may go.

Paddington is at 50% of MLP (4.5M), 75% of The Star (7.4M), and 85% of Ferdinand (11.4M). Tomorrow is looking weak as fuck too.

Paddington, Money, and Ferdinand have sold nothing.

Just TERRIBLE for Paddington. I have no clue if I should stick to high-teens or lowball it around 12-13M.

45% of OE (12.9M)

50% of Girls Trip (15.6M)

55% of BOO 2! (11.7M)

65% of Kingsman (25.4M)

90% of THB (19.7M)

160% of The Foreigner (21M)

The Post comps:

Kind of funny that you’re lowballing a film now based on your ONE theater, for a family movie that’s walkup based nonetheless
