A star is born is selling ticket for limited tuesday and wednesday to it is inflated here.

But still Venom is still around 50% of DP2, making that 60M look good, at least on how it will open, internal mutliplier obviously can derail it.

A star is born:

204% of Mamma Mia 2

206% of crazy rich asian

263% of Ocean 8

I wasn't paying much attention before today, so I don't know how many seats it sold in the last couple of days.

Do have a couple of interesting notes.  A Star is Born is at the very least cutting in to screen real estate as they're both competing for the biggest screens at some theaters.  It's more obvious though at the small theaters as Venom is losing out on some of the smaller screens that the other films listed had.

It probably won't matter too much for Venom, but the Regal Natomas (a theater on in the lower end of the mid-range of theaters locally) has gone from just having reserved seating for its RPX screen to having ALL (or at least the vast majority of) its screens be reserved.  This might inflate the seat count a bit in future films.  It's nearly like having a new theater in town when it comes to counting seats, as I used to have very little data for that theater before now.

Might decide to do a seat count for A Star is Born later tonight, as a compare/contrast, but I'm not entirely sure just how much of its ticket sales will be for Thursday (which is the only night I rigorously track).  Haven't decided though, as it does take quite a bit of work to set up my spreadsheet for any given film.

I didn't even realize that A Star is Born was having limited shows on Wed.

Shows how much I've been paying attention.

...

*checks*

Only six more showings locally.

Hmmm...

Yeah, think I'll do a combined report for Wed/Thur as there aren't THAT many showings on Thur.

Watch this space. :)

Since there are Wed sneaks/limited engagement (or whatever they're calling it), gonna do this a bit differently than the others.

I don't have comps for anything like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again or Ocean's 8, but I did throw in the admittedly bad Venom comp.  But it might be interesting if folks can figure out a weekend internal multiplier from similar movies.  At the very least it might show us how these two films are selling as we head into the weekend.

The Wed showings are selling like gangbusters, but it IS only 6 showings.  Quite a few of the Thursday showings were also doing rather well, though obviously not nearly at the pace of Wed.  Mostly at places that didn't burn off demand the night before (only 5 out of the 21 theaters locally showing ASiB have Wed showings).

Finally, as I noted in my last post, ASiB is in fact getting at least a few of the larger screens that a movie like Venom might ordinarily get on its premiere night.  Just something to keep in mind, if only around the edges.

Be interesting to see just how much demand was burned off locally as Thursday approaches.

15 minutes of Pulse one hour ago (normally 5 minutes of counting coincide with 15 minutes of sold tickets, this time it were only 10 minutes so I counted till the reset when the same sold tickets were shown again):
ASIB: 293 (must be influenced by the shows today, still, that's the highest number I've seen in the last months, Fridays included)

Venom: 154
The only comparison on a similar level would be M: I 6 with 120 sold tickets (but probably less frontloaded) same day and daytime.

A bit of a different scenario since it was a week not  a day apart but Crazy Rich Asians having WED sneaks the week before it's WED opening

That makes sense, movies that have current showtimes get a lot more tickets sold than movies still doing presales which puts Star way ahead of where it would normally be.  Last week Venom was 50-75% ahead with a more apples to apples presales:
