Most auteurs people jack off too couldn't direct a decent blockbuster to save their lives.

Hi Paul F !

Paul F the big auteur people jack off too yes, the famous distinctive Feig cinematic language

Most is possible 50% is an high bar, but must be compared to the non auteur people jack off too rating.

Many succeeded Bay, Tarantino, Cuaron, Villeneuve, Aronosfky, Iñárritu, Ang Lee, Fincher, etc....

If you take the 50 last auteur director that tried to go big budget affair and look up the success right of at least decent movie, not so sure it would be that low.

what's the budget for this?? the movie came out last weekend in australia and flopped, sadly

It wasn't released there. It had preview screenings there (that you can pay for) similar to how some movies have preview screenings in the US before release that you also pay for. But they're not exactly wide spread and only at select theaters. I don't understand when this became a thing but apparently it's a thing now. (Unless its been a thing and I just haven't made attention to it?)

Regards to budget, it's Lionsgate so Im gonna say in the $30M-$40M without PTA.

Yes. That was from preview screenings that were held over the weekend. But it's official/wide release date is on the 13th over there.

Don't ask me when this all started but again it's a thing to have preview screenings that count towards the box before a film opens now. I believe The Spy Who Dumped Me had something similar but in the US. If I am not mistaken @CoolEric258 went to one.

But it was screened in 208 theatres for that weekend which is basically a normal release?

Well they weren't all day. They had the screenings at night. So while it was screened in 208 theaters, it wasn't all day. The critic I mentioned earlier in this thread explained it to me. He was at the screening but there were people there who also paid for it but they were showings in the evening.
