Jurassic World II OS Thread

Were you not expecting Jurassic Park 5 to have a bigger element of fan base rush on day 1 than Mummy?

Tom Cruise is very big in SK, like extremely big. So that also had fan base rush on day 1. JW probably had more I agree. JW also had a higher opening and better WoM (because The Mummies WoM was extremely bad). That said a 75.5% drop is a decent amount smaller than a 80.5% drop.

At first you might think thats not at all a big difference. But you should look at it like this:

75.5% drop means it held 24.5% of adm, ad 80.5% drop means it held 19.5% of it's adm.

First you think only a 5% worse drop, than you put it in to perspective and you get this.

24.5 to 19.5, this means that 24.5% is 26% bigger than 19.5%.

What I want to say is that 5% on 50% drop doesn't mather that much (about 10%) but the bigger the drop gets the bigger a small % is in actual drop.

A drop of 98% is twice as good as drop of 99% to show a very simple example.

That said being fan driven is defenitly a reason, and the OD was amazing. I just don't think the 80.5% was good, like I said before I think it will be a WE movie and bring in good increases on Fri-Sat and a low drop on Sun.

JW:FK got demolished in SK with an 81% second-day drop. Not the end of the world though. Will have a much higher OW (incl. previews) than JW1.

Was JW1 during this holiday too?

There was a roaring start in Korea which opened to a record breaking $9.7M (10.3B won) and over 1M admissions to become the biggest opening day of all time in both admissions and box office. The local Memorial Day bow beats all previous opening day box office records which were previously held by Universal’s own The Mummy (7.4B won) and in terms of admissions by Avengers: Infinity War (980K).

Elsewhere, France opened with $1.7M and is No. 1 with 60% market share; Indonesia bowed to $1M (120% bigger than Jurassic World‘s opening day/2nd biggest Wednesday launch for Universal); and Germany scored No. 1 with $865K/55% market share.

The Philippines had a great No. 1 opening with $732K for 27% ahead of JW the first. In Belgium, the T-Rex is aces at 64% market share at $156K

In previews, Singapore is the 4th biggest single day ever with $264K which is 10% bigger than Jurassic World. The UK‘s Wednesday previews of $2.9M are Universal’s 2nd biggest Wednesday previews of all time. Malaysia also had a great day of previews with $441K, at the same level as Jurassic World.

More markets are coming on board today including Italy, Russia, and Hong Kong.

Btw the last JW in sk had 150k friday and had a massive increase on sat and even increased on sun ! with 576k and 645k respectively. So with 230k Thu, expect a 25% jump friday, maybe 30%, big jump sat and small decrease sun. (Because it's a sequel)

The Mummy did $8,6M  for a  $17,8M weekend. Should we expect a 20M weekend for JW2?

JW1  did $14M weekend

TBF they only compared actual numbers with the first where there wasn't a drop.

TOtherwise we got the usual studio PR dance around -

2nd biggest ever Wed previews for Universal in the UK

60% of the market in France

#1 in Germany with 55% of market share

how much did it decrease by?

UK if RTH number is correct by 26%

France by 25%

Germany by 45-50% (but JW OD was on Thursday, and JW2 get +80% theaters on Thursday so this will be a lot less)

Belgium is way to small for dailies and I am to lazy to search through the whole JW thread, sorry 😛
