STEPHEN KING'S IT WEEKEND THREAD | 117.15 Mill!....NO SPOILERS..NOT EVEN IN TAGS!

The box office for It would be even higher if the Houston and Florida markets weren’t affected by two of this nation’s strongest hurricanes on record. The state of Florida alone accounts for 6.3% of the nation’s box office receipts and due to Hurricane Irma, it only accounted for 1.88%.

Could IT have had back-to-back 50+ days...

The last thing any Harry Potter Fan would want is a reboot of the series. The casting was perfect in those films. That cant be replicated the same way. Radcliffe is Harry. Watson is Hermione. Grint is Ron. A reboot would crash and burn.

More on Topic: IT is the box office story of the year and for me the most exciting think to witness since the JW madness.

why?

Well I am generally not a fan of overdoing things. I would love to see more in the potteriverse but mostly exploring parts we are not already aware of. (A prequel or maybe a sequel).

I can't see an animated adaptation working for any of the movies except for the first 2. I may be wrong but the latter books are far darker so I can't properly see how it may turn out well.

About a remake of the actual movies? Absolutely No. The ones we have are iconic and beloved. There is no other reason other than greed to make such a thing and I am sure a lot of people would be equally pissed with such a decision.

I am grateful that JK didn't rely on any of the pre-existing material and she is searching for new things.

reboot all potters an animation. won't forgive them if they don't. then take a 5-10 year break and reboot all potters live-action. then take a 5-10 year break and reboot all potter in virtual reality cause that's the future eh?

I doubt Potter is ever getting a live action reboot. Even when they run out of Beasts movies, they're gonna do the Cursed Child movie(s) and then pay JK Rowling billions to have her write some more HP content. Or they're gonna do Beetle The Bard, Quidditch Through The Ages, Short Stories and so much other shit that hasn't even been touched yet and might not sound all that cinematic, but it's got Harry Potter attached to it so it would make a shit ton of money regardless.

However, I wouldn't put them past doing a Lego Harry Potter movie or more. The Lego HP brand is extremely profitable, one of Lego's most successful to my knowledge.

Biggest Warner Bros. OWs...Right now all of the top 10 are DC or Potter :) (#11 is Godzilla)

IT could displace POTTER 7 with a 40.5% Sunday drop (assuming 51 and 46.5 hold more or less)

46.5 x .0188 = $874,200

46.5 - .8742 = 45.6258

45.6258 / 0.937 = ~48.7

That's only if Florida would have gone for IT  to the level that it goes for movies generally.  Not sure how Florida represents across horror generally, maybe it's already a bit below its average generally.

This is all very remeniscent of Deadpool's OW for many reasons. It's tough to say which is more impressive. Deadpool probably had the highest 3-day OW it possibly could, with VD and being released on a 4 day weekend, while IT, if anything, is actually deflated. It may come down to which you think is more impressive, a very different kind of superhero movie opening near the top-end of the genre, or a standard-ish horror movie taking a genre to heights we haven't seen before.

I will say this, it seems like we may get an aboslutely huge horror movie every generation or so (Sixth Sense, The Exorcist, now this). Horror movies lend themselves to be very zeitgeisty (we've already seen that this year with Split and Get Out), so something like IT with wide-enough appeal can pull this off. And with the genre being at something of a commercial high point the past few years, IT could have been the movie this was all building to. Doesn't mean we will see a spate of enormous horror hits, but I think IT was certainly helped by the recent commercial success of the genre.

God no

Well, whether we like it or not, it is coming. WB is not letting that goldmine slip away from their hands.... I mean, they're doing 5 Fantastic Beasts movies, that's how desperate they are to keep Rowling/Potter; they wouldn't pass on Cursed Child no matter what  :redcapes:
