The Good Dinosaur was a troubled production and there was an overall sense of "let's get this over with ASAP" to its release. Coco was none of those things. That's the difference.

A bit like a recent SH movie.

71.89M 5-day, 49.6M OW

Out of Pixar's 18 films, 9 are above 245 dom and 9 below 245. If COCO opens to 70+ 5-day, it could break into top-half of Pixar. Moana did 3.0x the 5-day. This would need 3.4-3.5x the 5-day using 70-72.

The situation with The Good Dinosaur is that it had some of the worst promotion I've ever seen for a Disney-distributed animation. The trailers were.... off (the photorealistic shots were BEAUTIFUL, but then those dinosaur models had me "huh?!"), and on top of that, marketing in general was muted to almost non-existant, as Disney was too swooped into promoting the storm that was gonna be The Force Awakens, effectively dumping TGD's chances down the toilet. I imagine they don't care as they got 2B WW and 930M DOM out of it, but one can almost say that it came at the expense of Pixar's 1st financial disaster. Almost.

And then to add insult to injury, the movie got decent at best wom (not good for Pixar standards whatsoever, especially coming off Inside Out), and it did a great job at alienating audiences: some thought it was too kiddish for adults and too dark for kids.

I can't say if it plays out but this has a cultural tailwind none of those did.  I felt close to my family after watching it and can only imagine how I'd feel if I was of Mexican heritage.  I can see kids watching it and then rewatching it in Spanish with their family members...and then again.  I've seen some posts on Twitter from people living in Mexico that cite having watched it 4-5 times there.  Tremendous xfactor here on what the legs can potentially be

If we look at adjusted - only 3 Pixar films have made under $267m - and they are the three least well reviewed/received PIXAR movies - but also two of the last three.

You try to reason with a troll. It wont work ;).

I still haven’t figured this out and I’ve been here for a while. Some of Steve’s predictions like about Star Wars have been so laughable, is he a troll with an ax to grind or just not very clued in to how these things work? I don’t just want to assume wow this guy is clueless, it’s nicer to assume oh ok he’s being funny and looking for a reaction. I’m still confused :/ lol
