Webslinger
Screen Junkies was pissed that The Big Sick was completely overlooked. Given its locked standing in my year-end top ten, I can't say I blame them. The nominations for The Greatest Showman and All the Money in the World feel like shameless star pandering, especially considering the fact that the HFPA is apparently the only group that has even seen All the Money in the World thus far. Morieris
Okay I know most of the noms are bought by the studios, but I'm still stuck on this. Who paid for Boss Baby's nom? Fox because they distributed it, or Universal to gather some very early hype for the sequel? This year was a perfect storm of suck for Captain Underpants to get any attention. Webslinger
This year wasn't a very deep one for American animation and I don't doubt that they want Alec Baldwin in the audience, so the nomination for The Boss Baby doesn't surprise me. The Panda
The Boss Baby has been hitting a LOT of animation precursors, I would not be surprised at an Oscar nom, especially since they've changed how they do the animation nominating process to be more broad. filmlover
In addition to Oprah being the DeMille recipient this year, all actresses attending the ceremony will be wearing black in protest to industry inequality (and will likely extend to the other award shows as well). https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2017/12/golden-globes-all-black-protest Between this and all actress presenters at the SAG awards, I think it's time to accept that Lady Bird is gonna be our Best Picture. The narrative writes itself.

I noticed a lot of people after the SAG ensemble nom just jumped to three billboards without considering that film's divisiveness, in a year where all the competitors are divisive, this could work, but Lady Bird is widely beloved or at least liked by almost everyone. How people can just overlook Lady Bird and declare Three billboards and Get out front-runners is beyond me.

If any year is gonna see a "traditional women's movie" win Best Picture (especially one directed and written by a female), I'm pretty sure this is it. I actually think it's somewhat of a neat move tbh. And a nice middle finger to E! types who always ask actresses nothing but dumb questions of the "what are you wearing" variety and little about their actual professional work on the red carpets of all these ceremonies year after year.
