upprdeck
they should have just gone to different price model from day 1. it wasnt the cost per month that changed how many bought in, it was the fact no one knew about it. $10 a month for 2 movies and have price after that or something would have still gotten many to buy it and the bleeding would have happened much slower. RandomCat
4 minutes ago, Rumpot said: I've called this a scam - here's why. If you read the filings the management has laid out excessive bonuses for themselves in addition to their pay which is high. The CEO's bonus is triggered at various levels by the company reaching particular market cap milestones. Since market cap is the number of shares that exist times the price it increases both ways - ie a billion shares of a $1 stock has same cap as 10 million shares of a $100 stock. So these guys are all about the hype cycle - talking about how they are revolutionizing the business, how many users they have, etc. They use this to sell a TON of shares. When this company goes bankrupt the CEO, etc don't care as they walk away with a ton of money regardless (10s of millions at least). It is most important to them to sell the hype/story than to try and create a viable business and everything they do is from that vantage point. This CEO has done it many times before with his online palm reading site, etc Which is fucking sad. They could have a viable business strategy that will net them more money long term. But they'll crash and burn, and Theaters will start introducing their own models afterwards, probably charging 15-20 dollars a month. Cap
I am so pissed. I literally bought MoviePass in November specifically to see Avengers: Infinity War multiple times.
YLF
This is exactly why they had people start signing up for annual subscriptions and that was the only option. The people on the monthly sub will eventually cancel because Im sure this isnt the last thing they'll do to fuck their subscribers. So glad Im month-to-month. And they know you did (and if there is one studio that has no interest in talking about exhibitor to give a deal to MoviePass it is Disney)

EmpireCity
Gee, it is almost as if this was a total data gathering and strong arm scam from the start exactly like multiple people tried to warn people about. They are done in their current form. The deal is only going to get worse from here and will most likely end up right back at where they were last year before they began this scam. It will be $20 per month and you get a limited amount of movies. Still not sure how anyone thought a business model where if you customer uses your service even once per month you have lost money was going to be viable.

Do you think we’ll get subscription offers from theater chains in the future? Similar to the uk?

Oh it was the price and people knew about it because of the price change, if it would have stayed at $30-35 a month like it was and paid massive publicity for people to know about it, I doubt it would have got has many people. They did had a different price model from day 1 (day 1 being in 2011 or something like that).

Porthos
"We hope this will encourage you to see new movies and enjoy something different!" I am legitamtely dying here. Taken from here: The "eat your vegetables" line didn't go over to well, apparently, which led to this: "cut down on fraud" "selling their tickets to Star Wars, or whatever". ... MoviePass scalpers killed this, everyone!! Honest. This really is the beginning of the end, isn't it?
Morieris
Totally waiting for illegal Moviepass groups where people meet up, go to the theater, buy tickets to something they don't want to see, take the stubs, and swap them to see something they like.

There was legitimate fraud with people going to theaters and purchasing tickets not seeing the movie solely for the rewards points, but not letting them check in to the same movie won't really prevent that. Its dumb. I saw BP a lot of times with my movie pass and watched it every single time.
Rebeccas
This sucks but I already used it enough to pay for my years subscription in just 5 months so I guess I’ll just not renew.
