Episode IX will be interesting box office wise as I think despite the mixed reactions from fans, they'll still turn up for the next film and I suspect we'll see a small increase OW as it'll be the last film in the trilogy

Not so sure about any increase....can't say why here.

If it follows TFA on Sat and Sun:

100M

57.3M

50.8M

208.1M Weekend

JW/Avengers is going to be veeeeeeeeeery close

My guess though is a bit more saturday and a bit less sunday than what you have but I agree, 205-210 seems like the range from a true Friday of 55m.

TFA and Rogue One increased 9.9% and 10% from the True Friday number. There's no reason to think this would nearly double that increase.

Anything for UK cinemas? You can post it in the UK box office thread if you have the info

I’m not feeling the divisiveness anymore my audience loved this.

Divisiveness exists mostly on the internet with die-hard fans. casuals are likely to love the shit out of TLJ including scenes that are singled out as superfluous.

Terrific for The Last Jedi. Looking at a $200+ million opening weekend and at least $600+ million total domestic. I think that is pretty terrific, indeed, for the second instalment of the latest trilogy in the main series, and the third film in the overall Star Wars Universe in 3 years. And this represents another Star Wars film that will sit among the best domestic performances of all-time.

I'm not at all a Star Wars guy. Didn't really grow up with the original trilogy. I saw The Force Awakens; not sure yet if I will be compelled to see The Last Jedi in theatres (reviews have me intrigued). Regardless, I find Star Wars to be an interesting film series. Other blockbuster fantasy film series, like the Tolkien universe (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit) or Harry Potter series, for example, are based on source materials. So the question for audiences isn't (or wasn't) so much, "what direction will the story take?", but "how will these series decide to capture the spirit of the books?" With Star Wars, there are so many creative directions in which this saga can continue to go narratively and thematically. That possibility, that openness, is pretty cool.

Peace,

Mike
