The next time I hear that a movie is going to get a boost because a trailer is released I am going to scream.  Trailers have had virtually zero impact on the box office since digital cinema came into play with trailers released on the web at the same time and no more 35mm prints having them attached exclusively.

Why would anyone go to the theater just to see a trailer when they can watch it on their laptop/computer :dunce:

Isn’t it supposed to be that people want to go see Black Panther because they see it heavily featured in the IW trailer? that sounds decently realistic.

While not a big boost in any way but Thor Ragnarok did get a slight boost the day after IW trailer debuted. It had the highest increase (way more than others) of nearly all movies on November 30th. It also had the best hold of any movie in the top 10 (movies not expanding that is) the following weekend.

Its not that people wanna go to the theatre exclusively for the trailer but it definitely increases interest even if slightly. I doubt IW trailer 2 will have any effect on BP though given how well BP is performing on its own

Going to see the trailer isn’t why the boost would happen...it happens (and particularly so in this case) because the Black Panther and Wakanda as a whole are featured heavily in the movie. the trailer will get massive attention, Meaning black panther will get massive attention, and black panther will get a boost.

I'm wondering if Infinity War might actually retain the majority of the Black Panther audience for this very reason alone. Would make the DOM race between the two much closer if that's the case.

Didn't that happen to Thor though? Hence why it had a 25% jump on it's 4th Thursday...... oh hey that's roughly the same distance into Thor's release that the first trailer dropped.

just wait until SW9 has a trailer.  pre-expectations before trailer will be around 250 OW, but once that trailer hits and people see the flashy scenes, OMG 300M OW on the table!

It's an ad plain and simple.  And there is no disputing that ads work. A non-trivial number will see it and since infinity war isn't out yet, will go to watch Black panther (again)
